My son-in-law, Carlos, stationed at March AFB in California, was deployed to Saudi Arabia for three months. Before leaving his wife and three young children, he sat down with the four-year-old Andrew. “I’m going to be gone a long time, he said. While I’m away, you’re going to have to be the man of the family. You’ll have to take care of your younger brother and sister. There are lots of things you can do around the house.” The more he talked the bigger Andrew’s eye got. Finally Andrew turned to his mother and said, “You’ll have to help.” Joseph P. McParlan
