Thanks for the offer Duane, but I'll be driving to Dallas again tomorrow, and the next day, and the next etc.   Maybe take you up on the offer over one weekend before too long.  GJ

Need some Ides to start up a support group for all those people tempted to put car tires on

thier motorcycles.

You can call it common sense or something like that.

I Will be forever known as Al supporter of all that would not be drawn to the Dark Ages , Or Dark Side

what ever they call it.

I wonder if your insurance would be cancelled for installing non compliant or code breaking

equipment on a motorcycle.

Insurance companies love to deny claims for one reason or another, this could be huge.

Not many places will install a car tire on a motorcycle rim, risk losing thier insurance at the business.

Big Al , Helper to all that are tempted to the Dark Side just to save a buck.

I am having fun with this idea, please don't be offendeed.

After my MC tire flat today (Avon Venom) on a tourer. I'm going to try the Darkside. I'll head to the tech board for the nutcage mod and CT info. I am looking forward to wrench. But what do you tell the shop so they will actually mount and balance the tire? "It's for off road use"?

Buy the tire from a decent volume dealer that has a mag wheel machine they will mount it...You can always use the one " It has a side-car on it ". Make sure before you buy that they will mount it if you buy from them.

I carried the wheel and tire into my local Honda shop and told 'em to put this on there, and balance it...

Don't ask 'em to do it, just tell 'em what you want done. I didn't get any hassle, no lecture or anything. It's becoming common enough that it doesn't even raise an eyebrow really anymore...

And hope I'm not stepping on the Sandbox/Tech Board boundary, but here's Daniel's writeup on the nutcage mod - http://lifeisaroad.com/stories/2005/08/24/valkyrieRearFenderNutCageMod.html

I cheated and just Dremel'ed it off... But my bike's not a show bike by any stretch of the imagination...

Thanks Joe.

You are definitely a good friend.

You know I am just kidding around about the car tire thing.

But it's not for just any body, according to the riders abilities is about right on this.

The Valk tires are pretty expensive and with as much riding as you do, which is about every free minute you have.

I can see why you run a car tire to get the better mileage per tire, it will give you.

Thanks again for being a good brother and I definitely have your back as well.

You can do it yourself too.  I couldn't get anyone to mount mine here in Indianapolis.  I finally had to build a 2x4 frame to hole the wheel off the floor, and did it myself.  It wasn't too bad.

I used Dyna Beads to balance mine, and have been very happy so far.  About 1000 miles or so.

Stand by for the sound of a reel spinning seemingly out of control and the setting of the hook.   Wink
