Hey All,

Based on the fact that I can't find anything in the search, I am assuming that I am asking a dumb question. Let me preface this with the fact that I am from the world of sport bikes and I just switched over and bought a 98 valk 2 weeks ago (she is bad a** by the way). In the world of sport bikes there are full exhausts and slip on.  It doesn't seem to be the scenario here. I am looking to add horsepower and a little volume to match the big 6 that powers my new toy. I know that there are several posts on which exhaust to buy so that isn't my question. My question is...

Is there such a thing as a slip on type exhaust for valks or is it a complete system.. headers and all.

Thanks again for your expertise,
Justin

Well sorta. You can put on glass packs but it requires welding. You use your same headers. Or you can buy truck stacks and modify your oem exhaust to your liking. I just cut 3" off my entire exhaust and drilled rear baffles. Added truck stacks. Its loud but not horrible.

It is my understanding that Honda did a very good job in designing the Valk exhaust as for power output.  You can alter the sound to your liking by various means, but it is difficult to increase HP by changing or altering the exhaust.  Carolina Bike & Trike makes what they call a slip-on exhaust which is touted to increase HP.  You can do it yourself or they will add it to your headers.  I personally have no knowledge of the success of these exhausts.  Maybe someone will chime in who has tried their product...JTL  Smiley

The systems you are looking for are no longer in existence.

Viking used to make a header muffler system like you are referring to.

Someone, it seems like it was Jeff K from Florida wanted to try and get enough orders together to refurbish another run on these pipes.

There is 1 more on the market, or was, but I don't recall the name of them now.

It seems Willow, one of the bosses here, had a set on his I/State.   If so maybe he will jump in here.......

Then there is the mechanical ones who make them into slip on sets...

If you want a play with set, buy a set that has the disc's in the rear.   Be warned, they terminate at the Axle.    Old age has set in and the name of them is off in no remember land somewhere.

Hopefully someone with a better remember will jump in here to help ya out.    Chet at Rattlerbars.com has them on his bike.   I also had them on mine for awhile.....   Mine is a Tourer and it made the bottom of the saddle bag all powdery and blackened.     SUPER TRAPPS.   Mental processor showed up.

There is also a lot of manual changes and some 6 into 6 pipes.  There is or used to be a 6 into 2 set from Jardine.

"One of the bosses"  Lol!

The pipes on my Istate were Two Brothers Racing canisters with a crossover pipe.  If you're looking for additional HP from the exhaust you will almost assuredly need something with a crossover pipe.

MarkT still makes one such set for the Valkyrie. MarkT's Horseapple Ranch

You can occasionally find used TBR canisters on Ebay or Craig's List but Two Brothers no longer produces them.

Didn't Jardine also make a set with slip on mufflers? Sure seems like they did....but like RJ, too many years....too much fun.

I'm kinda partial to the Glass pack mod myself.
I made my own a few years back when my LH stock muffler starting rattleing bad. I read up all the info available here on the VRCC & decided to tackle it myself. I liked the double wall stock head pipes {no blueing} & since I had a set of basically throw-aways already on my bike I dove in.
The basic things I wanted to accomplish was to change to a more agressive sound but not ear-splitting & not hurt {or maybe slightly increase} HP & torque. My research indicated keep the size of the GP a 2" i.d. & point the "cups" of the baffling at the flow, i.e. don't install backwards. I liked the 3 into 1 concept that a GP mod does.
Cutting to the chase here, the GP mod seems to have slightly raised the torque & HP of my Valk {butt dyno results only, no real data} & I love the exotic sports car note it has now too.
One caveat however. I used a relatively short body GP that dumped the sound into the extended tip & did drone a bit more than I liked. Solution was to add a set of "inner tips" to add a little more backpressure & move the noise out of the "echo chamber" 4" tip.
Worked out great.
If I had it to do over I would use the longest body 2" GP I could fit. The added length should be mellow-er & get the noise out to the rear better.
If you are interested I think I posted a bunch of pics with captions a few months back, do a search I think you'll find it.  cooldude

Savage,

I did the QueXpress glasspack mod on a set of pipes I bought off Craigslist.
http://www.valkyrieriders.com/shoptalk/QEpacks.htm

Did the full screw on option, and found another set of pies on CL, that a guy already had the mufflers modified with the screw collars, and a set of straight pies with screw collars and Airflow stacks already setup for mounting. Plus, I still have the full muffler from the cut set of pipes to eventually finish making some silencers for long trips.

I like the changeability of the system, though if I would have had the money available, a set of Mark-T's with trombones would have been much easier. I will usually put in the straight pipes for the Lone Star Rally in Galveston, just so I can make sure the Valk is noticed among all the V-twinkies...  2funny

Or, if you really want to make some noise, just unscrew the GPs and run without any pipes. Painful for the ears, but quite a show when running it hard.  uglystupid2

Plus, I wish I could find the article again, but I read where someone had set their bike up with the screw-in option, and had access to a dyno. They tested several sizes of glasspacks, and as I recall, he said the best power combo was a 1 3/4" ID muffler, to get close to the proper back-pressure. When I ran without anything for about a week, I could definitely feel the loss of power.
