Hay guys I can use some advise  I need to replace my stock  Dunlaps on my 2001 interstate they only have about 8800 miles on them, the dealership wants to sell me avons av71 and 72. they will sell and mount for 520dollars  i feel a good price from  what ive seen but have also seen some  negitive stuff about the cobras as of recent  any advise about   a good replacement brand  would be appreciated and any coments from any one who has avons on their valk would be appreciated.  im thanking yall  for any help in this matter,Mal

I run the Avon Cobras and that is all I will run.  I think they are great tires.

Mal, when it comes to motorcycle tires you'll hear good and bad about any brand.

Cobras are as good as you can get for the Valkyrie.  You'll need to keep your tire pressure high enough to avoid bad wear patterns.  I go with 42 front and 44 rear.

I will tell ya that I run the Metzlers. I have run Avons, Dunlops and the Metzlers and I cannot really tell the difference. I think unless your an expert rider and push a bike to the max, I don't think ya can tell them apart. Air pressure is critical, I believe that. Now I live in Arizona and it is......lets say a bit warmer here than most states  and tires do handle differently in the colder climates. A hard rubber tire here probably won't handle as good in a northern state. I think the Avons are a bit softer and thus they are chosen by our northern riders but here in Az. a tire gets pretty warm and the softer tires seem to wear out quicker here.
The biggest thing to remember is air pressure and also remember......this is just my 2 cents worth!!!!

Man I could have wrote this myself only mine is an 03 with around 8600 miles and I bet they are original tires since it had 3300 miles when I bought it 2 years ago. This bike handles like a dream so I want comparable tires. Last year I put bridgestone tires on my 97 Valk and seem to have a vibration in the corners I think due to tread design. Please keep the input coming I was considering trying a 200 instead of 180 tire on the rear.

Thanks to every ones valued comments and help I ordered a set of cobras and news plugs which i combined with the front tire order,split the order to apply a 25 dollar coupon from Jake Wilson .com ,,, so i got atotal of 50 dollars off their price and when i get the invoices i will send them to Avon for another 50 dollar rebate ,wow how cool is that so my cost of getting new tires went from 520 dollars to to about 384 dollars which by the way included the pices of 6 new spark plugs,o my Im a happy guy thanks to all who helped me out Mal
