I went through 7 motorcycle shops and auto tire shops before I found someone who would mount it for me! I had checked with several earlier who said they would do it, but backed out when I had the rim and tire for them to do it due to insurance concerns. If you don't change tires yourself, do y'all have problems like that?

I found a local shop that did it for me but I did buy the tire from them.

ask if they will do cash and no receipt.
that should negate to insurance part.

I did go through that with them...also told them 'Bama is a contributory negligence state...which means that if the Plaintiff is contrib. negligent, that bars any recovery...so if a jury thought the shop was negligent in installing a car tire on the bike, surely that same jury would think I would be contrib. negligent if I bought the tire elsewhere myself, brought it to the shop and had it installed on the bike and then rode the bike with the CT on it. They still wouldn't do it....the shop that did do it said they had done the same on some VTXs...they want me to bring the I/S by once I get it mounted and ride it a little bit...they're real interested in how it rides...the shop owner has ridden a CT on a straight road and said he couldn't tell the difference...I told him I'd let him try mine out if he felt lucky that day....

Two bike repair places up here in Ardmore that will do it. Got more grief that I didn't ride a HD than mounting a CT. Take the wheel and tire in and pick it up the next day. $20.

No "dealers" anywere near me would touch it. Can't say I blame them, very controversial and for the money they make on it, it's not worth the potential liability. I found two custom motorcycle shops that didn't bat an eye, never even asked a question. Then found out the kid down the road is a motorcycle mechanic and has all the equipment in his garage. Charged me $20.00 mount and balance

BamaDrifter64 A new place, Bennett's, I think. Exit 365 off I65, go west on 53, follow the service road about a half mile. Just a little before the back side of the rest area. Young guy with a small shop. Not much business yet. Had my first darkside done at Iron Horse. Nice mechanic, said he had done it several times.

Just last week, I picked up a CT at Goodyear and told the guy it's for a bike. He thought it was cool but he was not even going to think of mounting it. I skipped the dealership. Just outside of town, a small motorcycle shop opened up, I think motocross racers. I go in with the wheel and the new CT. I tell the lady I want it mounted, she said sure. The husband/mechanic came over and pointed out it was a car tire. His buddies thought it was for a dragbike. He said come back in an hour. I come back, he was pleased, he never did one and it balanced fine. He figured it sounded cool......$15 cash, no receipt, BUT I had the bring the bike around for him to check out. A few hours later I pull up as he is closing, he nudged his buddies saying theres that car tire I did. They were Harley guys but admired the tire, so I showed them the nickle trick. I would try a motocross/speed shop where they do alot of offroad stuff. Bring in the rim and CT, Cash and no receipt.

I think I recently read on the VTXOA message boards that a guy failed state inspection for a car tire on his bike. He had to go change it and take the bike back to get a pass sticker...... I think that was either in MD or NJ.
I have my own HF Tire Changer, it will pay for itself in the long run..... actually I think it already has.

Compared to a dealer doing all the labor and selling you the tire, I believe the tire changer paid for itself the very first time I used it, easily. Plus, I'm done in an hour or two vs all the time it takes to do it the other way(s).
