everytime i have a discussion here or elsewhere, it seems that it comes down to this,  You acn't have amber Markers on the back of your bike and you can't have Red signal lamps.  so when you use a signal minder, it kind of screws you unless you turn off sw1 and therefore lose lighting.  one would think there is a 1157 style bulb that would allow for one connection of the bulb to glow red (for a marker) and when the signal is put on, it would glow amber.   this way a simple unscrew your 1157 filiment buld and replace with an dual color led that has the base with the two 1157 style power buds.

And why can't you use red lights for turn signals?  My car doesn't have amber lights on the back.

I modded my rear signals by putting a set of front signal bases in the rear housings.  I wired the running lights to the license plate light and left the turn signals as they were.  I took a spray can of Candy Apple Red model paint and painted the inside of the stock amber lens.  I had people tell me that the turn signals were a bit dim so I put in the brighter bulb and scraped a cross in the center of the lens to brighten it up.  Works good now.

I used this kit on my Standard and really liked the way it worked. You end up with red running lights (LED), the turn signal still uses the stock bulbs plus a ring of amber LED, and when stopping there is the red ring of LED that light up.

Here's a video of it in action (this guy also had the back-off modulator installed):

I know Indiana permits red turn signals on the rear (amber required in front) and I cannot imagine that any state would outlaw red turn signals (rear) on a motorcycle.

I also put front sockets (duel element) in the rear holders for running lights.  Used relays and diodes to make the turn signals brake lights as well.  Swapped the amber lenses for red lenses.

The one added touch I used was to wire the rear running lights to front running lights rather than the license plate light.  This way, the running light turns off when the turn signal is on.  Creates a little more contrast.

You know...I never thought of that...GOOD POINT!!!  I might have to re-wire my lights.

As far as I know, red turn signals should be good to go on the rear.  The front must be amber.  Rear can be red or amber.

Ok, maybe I'm not thinking straight but explain to me how this works.

Do the running lights in the front turn off when the signals are turned on?  I never paid attention to this on the Valk but on my other bikes the front running light didn't cut off when using signals.

Electrical Connections makes a set up that I have on my Valk standard.
It adds 12 red LEDs to each rear signal, they are on low intensity normally they go to high intensity with the brake lights.
When the turn signals are blinking on these lights blink off and when the blinker is off these blink on at normal or high intensity if you are also braking. So the turn signals are still just amber.
Much nicer with 3 lights out back instead of just one.

The front running lights are on all the time.  Then, when you turn on the blinker, what actually happens is it turns OFF that sides running light, to make it blink.  Not on, like normal.

MP,  I didn't think I would ever disagree with you, but I think the front running lights/signals are 1157 dual element bulbs.  Dim element for running, separate bright element for signals, both in one bulb.

I stand corrected.  I thought I remembered someone using them to turn off another light, but looking at a diagram, my rememberer failed again!
Thanks for the catch!

The fronts are two element bulbs.  The running light turns OFF when that side blinker is turned ON.

Dynamic Clusters™  are a multi-color LED Clusters used for rear turn signal applications. The clusters are 2.0"  diameter and contains 48 super bright LEDs. The outer ring contains 24 Amber LEDS while all 24 inner LEDs are dual intensity Red. The Amber LEDs are connected to a  base while the dual intensity Red LEDs are connected to 3' wire pigtails.  These clusters will fit all  most metric cruiser turn signals including Honda VTX, Yamaha V-Star/Road Star, Kawasaki Mean Streak/Vulcan/Drifter, or any other turn signal that has room for a 2.0" diameter cluster.

The idea is like the Electrical connections which I replaced with these but a bit better, they are bright and do the job very well and no problem wiring. Just scroll the page till you come to them the difference between running and stop is not good in the display but very good in real life. The fit very well in the lens of the turn lights fill it well and like I said are nicely bright. Pictures cannot do these justice.
