Had a bell on my scoot for 8 yrs or so. Well I noticed it missing the other day. I think I heard it fall off last week. Well I been thinking about how I better get a new one sometime. I tried not to think about it while riding 'just in case!' Sat rode up to the big city to get rear brakes. They had none but EBC's. PASS! Called another Honda place from there. EBC's. Blah. Today getting wind with my HD bud and he says I have no head light. Sigh. Lows were out but highs worked. Prior to that I stopped along the road to fix my side cover that was flopping in the wind. My fix for the broken tab had broken. Great. Held for 3 yrs and now it broke. Been inside the cover the day before cause my radar detector stopped working. Loose wire. Well we hit a covered bridge next county over and stopped for PBR and some food at a local hangout. All was well till we left. As we are going out the 1st set of doors I was looking out the window at some other bikes that were there. I put my hand out to catch the door but soon realized they were saloon doors instead of a solid one. My middle finger gets caught between both doors. Taking some hide with it! I let out some inappropriate words and turn to see a 10 yr old staring at me. Opps! As I'm picking the hide off the side of my finger I step outside and forgot it was a step down. Soon as I slammed my foot to the ground I thought I knocked the teeth out of my mouth I hit so hard. Damn, I gotta get home! We hit another covered bridge and headed for home. Made it without any trouble. After the massive wreck that killed a child and a suicide shortly after, whom I knew well, I needed a ride. I'm also getting another biker bell....soon! I'm taking the truck to work in the morning....

Don't forget if a friend or loved one gives you the bell it doubles its power and hang it at the lowest point on the bike...I would'nt ride to the mailbox without one

WOW!!! Wrong brake pads, low beam out, side cover broken, loose wire, door slammed on your finger and pushed down the steps. You must have picked up all the gremlins along the road. They were waitin on you. Kit better buy you a new bell first thing Tuesday mornin before you really get hurt unless there is a m/c shop near you open tomorrow. Marty

Hell of a day Fudgie! Pick up a bell on your way home from work, better a bell you bought than no bell at all! (BTW: this is whay I have a couple BIG bells on my girl) After the massive wreck that killed a child and a suicide shortly after, whom I knew well, I needed a ride....
As far as that goes, After calls like those I have to remember a quote I came across... "On those days when the best you can do isn’t good enough, it takes quite a toll on you.
You come home and cry, or drink, or stare blankly at a flickering television screen, or hug your wife and kids, and you contemplate why it is that you ever took a job that requires you to see such things.
Or you realize it doesn’t bother you, and that fills you with even more dread. What are you becoming? Can you feel anything any more? You wonder if the job is worth it.
And then you contemplate doing something, anything, else with your life, and you have your answer."

Funny, now that you mention the bell, I need to replace mine. It vanished in the crash i had last month. I had totally forgot about it until this thread came up. Should have the bike ready for it's first ride this Friday, now have to get a bell first.

It probably fell off and the gremlins were able to pull you down. Marty

I am not really superstitous by nature, but my buddy Goody made me a bell with Old Skool Steve's name on it and I keep it on the bike and every time I hear it I am reminded of my buddy Steve. maybe it runs the gremlins off too but if it don't I wouldn't ride without it anyway............

My oldest friend acquired a custom 1974 Sportster, a couple of years ago. When Jill and I gave him a bell ( I figured it's a "Harley thing") he wanted to know if it would negate the "Blessing of the Bikes" sticker.

I took mine off of the CHP motor I rode when I retired. It has been on 5 bikes now counting the CHP bike....
Went on a Shriner's Parade and they presented each officer with a bell, man dat was many moons ago. I want to say it was in the mid 70's. I retired in 86 and put it on my Ducati, to the Gold Wing to the Harley to MGM.

Fudgie, Most of that stuff happened when you were off your bike! Maybe you need bells sewn to the cuffs of your bell-bottomed jeans!

Ride with one if you think it helps. But personally I think it'a fun superstition to be shared among friends. Still waiting for a friend to buy me one for my new Interstate. Don't have one and feel I may be unprotected. I think about the one in OSS's sadle bag all squished. How is that lucky. Shouldn't that have kept his bell from being sqiushed and therefore his bike protected. Never mind,.

My Captain got mad when he noticed my bell on my Duty Harley...Even though I explained why it was there, he just shook his head....guess he had never seen or heard of anything like that on a Police Motor....worked for me though, so when I left, I left it on the bike for the next motor officer...Hope it helped them out...
My wife bought me one for the Valk, and it must work since I didn't go down a few weeks ago when the front tire slipped on the hot tar...
