Left my phone on charge at home this morning - had to go back for it.

Got pulled over  this morning for "Performance Recognition Award". 12 over. In an area well known for revenue enhancement. Was able to sweet talk the female cop (talk about Quotas!) - a little. She wrote me up for "Impeding Traffic" . Impeding? at 12 over? I won't fight it, she cut me a "break" - no points. She only wanted my name & address anyhow...

Better to be judged by 12, then carried by 6.

I was a cop for 26 years, and sometimes it was quite humorous to see what some of the tickets we wrote were reduced or plea bargained down to. Our city attorney had quite a sense of humor, the one we liked the most was "riding a horse in the downtown"

same fine, no points, and written on a municipal citation so the state had no idea you ever got it. Lets face it, they don't care about the ticket or what it says, they care about the revenue! Keep that in mind when you get a ticket. In Wisconsin a city gets 10% of the money on a state citation, on a municipal citation they get 100%. You do the math, what one  do you think they prefer?

It pays in most places to contest the citation and ask for a pre-trial to talk it over with the city or town attorney, you can usually do it by phone.

I got to the point that about all I ever wrote were muni cites so I could be the nice guy instead of the city attorney, and the bosses were happy I was doing something instead of eating doughnuts.

Here in S.E. MI there are so many cities setting up entraopment zones that it it isn't even funny. In Dearborn Hts. if you get a minor citation (5 over, impeding traffic, equipment violation, etc), they say you have 15 days to pay and cannot fight the ticket. I tried to dispute my last citation and was promptly informed that the court system would not be clogged by people fighting tickets that they should just pay.

My nephew is in the police academy here and he says that this type of "revenue generation" is now excepted and expected, as local revenues are way down. And the court system is on board by not hearing objections to those citations.
