Going through Colorado on a 28 day trek to the west coast. In late June, what are the chances that there will be snow on the road in places like Independence Pass? I know there will be some on the mountains (duh) but don't want to be on a slippery road. Am considering taking Route 50 across the state if I hear bad news from you guys. Thanks

Come ahead on. You wil not have a problem with snow. When you get to the high country you will see plenty of snow on the ground on the north side of things but none on the road. Ride safe and look us up when you get to CO. cooldude

50 across Co. is an excellent ride. If I may suggest, at Montrose take 90 into Moab Utah. Jump up to I70 across Utah for times sake and then back on 50 where I70 ends. 50 on across Nevada is a good ride if you are going as far north as Reno.

We rode that route in 2004.

If you are going to Colorado you must do the Million Dollar Highway between Durango and Silverton, AWESOME

I wouldn't ignore Utah - - some of the most magnificent scenery in the US.

Thanks, guys. We plan on doing Colorado 141/145, then over to Utah Route 12, to Las Vegas and then over to Yosemite National Park. After that we hit some of the coastline in California, through Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, South Dakota and then home to Illinois. A total of about 8,500 miles in 28 days. I have never been on a trip that long before but being newly retired, we are calling it the "2010 Bucket List Run". Should be interesting.

Rt. 12 in Utah will blow you away, I did it last year, and it was one of the most awesome roads I have been on. When you get to Boulder take the side road that goes east ( I can't remember the name) about 15 mi. then turn around and go back, you will be amazed.
