GOT CURVES??

VRCCDS0184

« on: April 20, 2010, 04:33:30 PM »

The civil trial is going on now. Driving 126 mph on the phone and emailing when he crashed his patrol car killing two girls. Mitchell had been involved in two previous crashes in his six-year State Police career. One of them resulted in a $1.7 million judgment against the state.

Nothing will ever bring the girls back, but lets hold him accountable for his actions. Another LEO that thinks hes above the law.

A sad event to be sure.
LEOs are people too- some good, some so-so, and some not so good.
Just too bad that the gun is too heavy on the hip for a few who think they are "special".
Thankfully most are not that way.
This guy needs to be held responsible-period.

I have seen more LEO's on the cell phone in the past few years than I care to. I would say 9 out of 10 LEO's that I see are on the phone (unless actively in pursuit).   I thought they had radios to conduct official LEO business.  Must be contacting their local dealer, hooker or wife when they should be taking care of LEO business and working for the people who pay em.   Wink

Better to be judged by 12, then carried by 6.

Alot of services - police-fire-EMS - use phones to do bussiness. Some private conversations are better done on the phone rather then broadcast it over scanner land. Yea, phone calls can be picked up on scanners to, but not as much. Good guys aint the only ones using scanners. We do alot of our pt report calling to the ER over the phone. On occasion its done while driving.

Someone said what happened to the radio.

It is just like our real life.    C O M P U T E R.

All and I mean all of their calls come over that firkin computer.

If they want to use the computer then they need to make ALL cars 2 man.
1 to drive and 1 to call, read the monitor and give directions...    Don't give a hoot who you are, you can not read that screen and be on a run......

Criminals can not our run the Motorola, so in an emergency case, use it......

I'm damn glad I retired when I did..........

I agree!  We had a local hoodlum that graduated from larceny to B&E and then to attempted murder recently. He tried to rob a gas truck driver who was delivering fuel to a service station.  He attacked him with a sharpened lawn mower blade and started hitting him in the head with it.  Our community watch had previously met with the DA and Sheriff over this particular individual who had had numerous run ins with the law.  They just kept letting him go.  I actually said in that meeting "So, he is just going to graduate up to more violent crimes and either us or him will be hurt.  Right?", and they said yes.  Now the poor driver has had a mess of medical trouble over his attack.  I place the blame squarely on LE and the Justice System.  If there were penalties for his actions, he wouldnt have been on the street.  We all knew that this was coming because the law had no teeth.  As it stands, I would just as soon put a bullet through his head than let him go back into society.   Mark my words, ppl will be hurt by this animal and its only because of the impotence of our justice system.  The county jail is a summer camp not a work camp.

Oh, and as to the LE.  Nail his arse!  I recently was traveling through Raleigh, NC on my way to Forest City, NC on business.  As I was leaving Raleigh, the belt line filled with state troopers and various flavors of city and county LE.  Evidently a training class or something was just ending in Raleigh.  At any rate, I ended up following two Highway Patrol cars and one Asheville PD car west on I-40.  The speed limit was 70 but they were running 85 or 95 at all times.  I followed them as far as exit 103 on I-40 which is the Morganton exit.  No where along the way did they go under 85mph.  I took the car numbers down and followed them out of curiosity.  I knew they weren't on a call.  I saw them enter the highway en mass back in Raleigh.  The law applied to everyone except them it seems.  I own several trucks, and often drive a tractor trailer myself.  The LE I and my employees meet are simply using tickets as state revenue at this point rather than traffic control.  Im sick of them.  I can respect good Law Enforcement officials.  I will take a spanking if I deserve it, but this is out of control.  They dont obey the law.  They just leech off of us for a living.  I really just dont have any respect left for LE.  DO YOUR JOBS!  Get the drug dealers.  Get the folks doing the B&E!  Do the hard work!  Dont just sit on your ass and find (safe truckers etc) to pull over and give tickets for revenue.  Go after the BAD guys!

Ya Know,

I see a lot of cop basching in this Forum, and yes if the Cop deserves it give it to him, as in this case, and as RJ said glad to be retired.
Unfortunately with regard to tickets,  that is what most jurisdictions want, Tickets. We used to have a saying "a ticket a day keeps the Sargent at bay", and no, according to the Brass we did not have a quota, but when I took more calls than the guy who wrote more tickets I was chastised fro not writing enough tickets, but no one saw that I took twice the calls. This is a product of politics, they want revenue and that is generated through ticket. Unfortunately our young officers are being trained that way, and are getting very badge happy. As to getting a ticket, if I was the one "breaking the law" no mater how stupid a speed limit is, it is  my fault. No one told me to speed but someone did tell the officer to go and write tickets in that area.  Just remember that a Cop is a hero or zero, depending on if you need him, or you did not want to see him in your rear view mirror.

You cant blame the police for the Catch and release program! They are the"CATCH" part of the equitation! If they were not out there writing tickets you would be the one screaming as soon as some kid comes hauling ass down the street you live on and almost hits your cat!  tickedoff

The system they work in is BROKEN and all any one wants to do is whine about getting a speeding ticket! you should try blaming the legislators and lazy judges ,dont shoot the messenger!  tickedoff

I was behind a DPS (Texas State Trooper) car yesterday and watched as he motored along at under the speed limit and had trouble maintaining a lane (putting 2 wheels on the shoulder twice).  That sort of thing would have a private citizen pulled over for suspected DUI.  When we stopped at a red light I could see he was on a cell phone.  I have close to zero respect for anyone that can't drive properly, LEO or otherwise.

Just a update
The civil trial was settled today. The parents will use the money for scholarships and education.
The Trooper is still walking free.  Angry

If this would of been a normal person, not a LEO the outcome would be much different.
IMHO justice is a long way from being served.
