A friend is one who takes me for what I am.

Cleveland, Tennessee

« on: April 22, 2010, 07:00:09 PM »

I went out for a ride this evening really enjoying the nice weather. I was riding a 2 lane twisty road near my house some of you know it as rt 315. Just as I was rounding a curve, a pick-up hauling some constuction debri came around the same curve in the opposite direction. He was taking up both sides from the middle when he swerved hard to miss hitting me, tossing broken lumber onto the roadway. I abondened my line of attack and had to get into the very small gravel shoulder. Luckily I kept the bike from going down but did hit a mailbox post with my right foot and highway peg. When I stopped, and got my sh#t together, the truck was long gone. Checking out the bike the only thing damaged was the clamp on my highway peg snapped.
The bad news is I think I have a broken foot. I had on my good riding boots but the impact of the post hit me right where the ball of your big toe is. I'm in a lot of pain right now, but told my wife I will go to the doc tomorrow. The really bad news is I'm heading out next thursday for thunder on the beach in Panama City. tickedoff I need one of them  angel Bells

Sorry to hear that,,,, hope it turns out not broken,   And good job on keeping it up and not ending up in worse condition.  Heal quickly, and keep on riding as soon as you can.

If it is broke or even if you think its broke you should go tonight and get it checked out. Faster you get a broken bone attention the less pain it will cause...I'm no doctor but I did stay at a Holiday Inn last night  cooldude  All kiddin' aside the above is true ...Good job keeping it up .

+1 on what Joe says. Now imagine if you didn't have on the proper gear, hitting a post with sneakers and I think your foot being busted would be a sure thing. Sad  Heal fast.

So were your feet on the highway pegs or did ya have your toes pointed outward? Seems like the engine would protect your feet. glad your ok, just wasa wondering.

I ended up going to the ER last night. The doctor confirmed it was a fractured metatarsal bone. Nothing can be done, but to heal on it's own. I will miss any rriding this weekend...but hey it's suppose to rain anyway. The good news is...if I keep off it for a few days, it should heal up for next weekends ride.  So I'm just laying around today on the couch watching movies....Hey Honey bring me another beer 2funny

Thanks Sugarbee....The inconvenience of being sidelined is what hurts me the most.
I could only imagine the pain you went through.  It's been 6 months now, how are you healing?
Maybe I can join you and Joe in that foot race... 2funny

My foot's looking pretty good compared to what it looked like in October.  I can walk without a limp now and that's a good thing.  I even got on the treadmill the other day.  Since I was not able to move about and get around too much for several months, I sort of gained a few pounds  crazy2  I am so cheap, I just don't want to have to buy new clothes.....

Now that I think about it, I don't remember if I had a bell on my trike when the accident happened......hmmm....stoopid gremlins.......

as for the foot race, bring it on, I'm ready!  Smiley

Thanks Al....That would be befitting since you are one of my favorite "Yankees" (anyone north of Athens,TN 2funny) I like to ride with. Remember you and Lucky 13 are the first Vrcc riders I met after joining.  I Have a bell on the Valk...but just never got around to getting one for the Harley. The foot is doing better today, and I hope to be walking by monday and riding by tuesday. When I get back from Panama City & you and Joe get back from Cheaha, we will hook up for a ride and I will gladly get that Bell cooldude

Thanks

Hope your foot is healing up and the pain subsiding. If you're still going to PC, I'll be manning a rest stop just past the railroad tracks at Headland, AL on US 431. Watch for the signs. Will be there on Thursday, then head out for Cheaha on Friday.

Ya'll stay safe out there. Lots of crazy cagers out there that are always in a hurry. Too many crashes going on and we're too often the innocent victims.
