I bought a chrome filter cover and for this particular cover a only a Honda filter fits all the other filters were too big .... now the problem is when I lightly oiled the outer filter case so it would slide into the chrome cover , I heard the air being pushed out as I pushed the filter into the chrome cover  ..... now its hard to get that filter out of the chrome cover , I'm thinking when I heard the air coming out it caused a vacum and now its stuck .....I'm thinking of getting one of my very small drill bits and drill a small hole right in the center of the cover maybe allowing air in and the filter can slide out ....am I thinking right or is there another way to get the filter out without tearing up the chrome cover ?  has anybody else had this problem with chrome filter covers ? I'm just thinking about using a beer can for the same effect and alot easier !!

You are thinking right if its vacuum holding the filter in there.  If it swelled a tad due to the pressure of being run full of oil, then that hole you drill may not help.  Wipe the thing down and put it in the freezer overnight....see if that releases the dang thing

If you have compressed air and a air gun and the problem is suction take the air gun and let it blow under the lip of the cover. Even if you cannot get the end of the air gun under the filter cover it should have enough force to push it off even by blowing under the lip. If that doesn't work do drill a small hole very small and then use the air gun with a rubber tip on it and blow into the hole that should do the trick. Then just seal the hole and reinstall, it also may be possible to pry gently on either side of the cover from the lip that is facing the engine. use 2 screw drivers with rags and apply the force evenly. Thanks guys , I have tried using a strap wrench with the lip in the vice , tightened just alittle so as not to warp the filter , I tried putting the strap wrench on the lip of the filter while on the bike while trying to turn that chrome cover by hand in both directions and I could not get a good grip on the cover  tickedoff .... so I'll try the frig idea to if it will shrink alittle  uglystupid2 the worst that can happen is it don't work then I'll try the small hole and compressed air trick  cooldude Thanks everybody for the ideas ... cooldude

Richard the walmart ST6607 fits the valk and is slightly small in diameter than the stock filter. I have to rap mine with black tape to get a tight fit, but I've never had a problem getting it off. I've ran these filters for over 100K with no problems.

try drilling a hole through the filter, take out the guts and drill the case

should save the chrome.
