This was suggested to me by Daryl Hoksbergen at XF6-Custom and it worked beautifully. It's called an Indexable Pry Bar, meaning adjustable. After knocking out the upper race with a few taps on a large screwdriver, this pry bar is used for the bottom one. Loosen the knob and set the hooked/curved end piece at one notch past straight out then tighten the knob. Then stick it in the top while feeling the end of it from underneath, catching the top of the race. Give it 2-3 good whacks with a hammer, then turn the bar to another spot maybe 180 degrees from the first position....repeat. If needed, move the bar again....smack it 2-3 more times and the race drops right out. It took me about two minutes to knock mine out, had been in there since new in 1998. The bar and hooked end are hard steel I guess because it never marred the end of it. The brand name is Titan, I got the 10" version but maybe a 12" is better, got it at Northern Tool. There's another brand, Gear Wrench, same tool but different manufacturer. In the north like Wisconsin, you can get them at Fleet Farm or something like that. The only place I found it in Orlando was Northern Tool for about $28, well worth the money, and you can use it to remove grease and dust seals, all kinds of things. But the lower race in the neck is where this really stands out. Bang, bang, turn...bang, bang, drops out.
