If the bike is stock, you are as lean as you dare get.......
Most of us did not buy this bike for it's known gas mileage.
To get better mileage, DO NOT DO ANY OF THESE:
1. Twisting of the throttle rapidly and for long periods of time.
2. Stay under 56 MPH
3. Jack rabbit starts from a stop.
4. Don't hit the brakes before 40 ft from where ya need to stop.
That should help ya a lot, but it ain't no fun doin it.......
Hate to say it, but if you want gas mileage, sell the Valk and buy an ST1000.

u don't mention any mods to the bike, mpg getting now and at what speed the poor mpg is at. suggest factorypro.com read their constant velocity carb tunning guide. there are things u can do to get better mpg. it running higher hwy speeds, u need to make sure your not into the needle circuit of the carb, u want to be into only the pilot jet circuit, which means sometimes only going to a one size larger pj will do the trick. |

As far as gas mileage, I have been wanting more mpg out of mine and found the following. Mods made: Dyna3000 installed Cobra 6x6 Cobra needle kit Gas mileage: avg 65-70mph = 34 mpg avg 75-80mph = 25 mpg after racing Big Dog chopper = tank avg was 20mpg ...hmmmmm  |

I can only suggest slowing down. my valk has gotten 40+ mpg a couple times when I stayed 65 mph and under. At 75-80 it quickly goes in the toilet. I'm all stock except a k&n.

As Robert said, advancing the timing will help, as long as your right wrist isn't to exuberant. A 4 or 6 degree trigger wheel (no more than the 4 for an I/S) or the inexpensive ECT mod will help. The ECT mod gained me 2 or 3 MPG if I keep the rpm's below 3,000.

The Dial A Jet by Thunder product's will get you a few more HP and MPG. They also allow you to adjust your jetting to altitude which makes a big difference in MPG.

Oh and don't ride south to texas with a 30mph head wind. Tank gets empty rather quickly riding at 75mph. Try 22mpg  But it sure was fun !!!  |

The only modification I have made to my Valkyrie is a 6 degree trigger wheel.
My miles per gallon increased by about two miles per gallon with the trigger wheel.
I get a steady 40 miles to the gallon around town, get up to 42 and 43 miles per gallon on the interstate as long as I keep the speed under 70 miles per hour.
I use premium gasoline and have over a hundred thousand miles on the bike.
