Depends on the country.

In the UK no, you get 7 days to produce your driving documents at a Police Station of your choice and no requirement to carry a passport or id. In Spain where I now live you must carry all your driving and vehicle documents with you AND your ID card or passport if you don't have an id card (most European countries have them except, of course, the UK). No id and driving documents and you are visiting the police station in their car. Sorry I don't know definitively about other countries.

Hope this helps

..is no law that you have to carry a ID all the Time.
But if you drive a vehicle you must identify your self in a case of a traffic check.
You need a ID (that can be your Passport) and your Driver Licens.

You need no Visa for Germany and you can stay 3 month as a tourist

It's all changed in the UK now.We still don't have to carry ID but the 7 day producer has all but gone.

What happens now is,when you get stopped by the Police for a traffic offence they take your name and date of birth. They then radio it through and will get told your description AND wether you have a full driving licence, insurance,MOT(yearly safety check) and road tax(government scam to get them more money).

If the check comes back and they are told you have NO insurance or road tax they will sieze your car or bike. You then have 14 days,I think,to produce a valid certificate. If you can't then your vehicle is CRUSHED.

We also have police vehicles that have NRP cameras in them,Number Plate Recognition.
As you drive passed, the camera will read your number plate and in 3 or 4 seconds will alert the police if there is anything wrong with the vehicle, not only driving documents but also wether the vehicle has been used in some crime. If there's anything wrong,,,,they come and get ya.

The cost's today for the Valk

Insurance   £130       =  $200

MOT          £30         =  $46

R/Tax        £68          =  $104

P/Port        £77         =   $118

and finally today the price of petrol or gas as you call  is,,,,,,,,,

£ 1.22 per litre  ====  £4.61 per US gallon  =====  $7.07 per gallon

You dont have to carry an ID in Norway or Scandinavia.
When driving, you must of course have the driver lisence, wich also are an ID.
