Need some advice on my fuel leak.....2001 I/S. After smelling gas, I noticed a drop of fuel dripping off the bottom of the fuel valve. I'm pulling the tank off this morning for a closer look. Fuel lines don't appear to be split or cracked (looking while tank is still on) but further inspection may prove different, but that would be too easy. Any advice or suggestions welcomed.....I have not spent much time wrenching in this part of the bike. My suspision is the O'ring on the fuel valve or fuel valve itself????
TIA, Mark

If the fuel is coming from the weep nipple on the bottom of the petcock it could likely be a failing petcock diaphragm.

There's about 6342 ??? threads on the Pingel petcock here on the board. Just search "Pingel" and you will find a wealth of information about them.
Long story short... Pingel 1311-CH is the one for the Valkyrie. This is a completely MANUAL petcock; it has no vacuum shut-off feature, so you HAVE TO shut it off each time, or it could cause you dilemmas. Much more dependable, just shut it off everytime you shut the bike off.
The reserve for the Pingel is smaller, but with an I/S no worries because you have the fuel gauge.
Pingel makes a vacuum model for the Valk also (MIGHT be a 1311-CHV - I think). But this adds complications that most are trying to get away from in the first place, by going to the simple "on-off" of the Pingel.
Some will also add a Dan Marc electric fuel shut off in conjuction with the Pingel. This goes downstream from the Pingel and only opens the fuel line to the carbs with the key in the on position. Do a board search for "Dan Marc" and you will find a ton of info about that too.
I have both on mine, plus a Redeye quick-disconnect.... and have had no problems whatsoever.

Mark, If you need a hand working on the diaphram let me know. I had to rebuild mine last fall.

Your petcock seam is probably leaking. The side panel is rivited on, so you have to drill them out if you want to fix the seal in the seam. Sounds harder that what it is. I fixed mine, but then, I am very cheap...
If you want to replace:
Not that I have anything against pingle, but you can get the same thing for 1/4 of the price - it is just a simple on/off valve.
I suggest get a cheap petcock (without diaphram) with an electronic shut off valve to prevent hydrolock.

The oem petcock has a malfunction indicator-drip from petcock. How do you know if your electric solenoid is working properly? Will it not fail at some point and could it not fail in the closed position leaving one stranded?
