I am in the process of putting together a sound system for my 98 tourer. I need some sort of USB port for charging my MP3 player while riding without adding a lot of extra junk to the bike. Ideally it would be a female USB connector with a hot and ground comming off the back for me to connect to a battery. simple and small. but I havent found anything like that.

"Pyle" is the only vendor that claims they sell one with their system but wont return calls. (that fact alone tells me I wont buy their speaker/amp system.)

Thanks for your time guys.

Well a USB port is 5 volts so you will have to regulate the 12 volts down. How you do that is the other thing there are devices that do that at least in R/C planes that I fly LOL we have Voltage regulators for our battery packs so I have a small one that could be wired to a female USB port which I have been thinking about doing just have not done it Yet LOL

I have a power outlet mounted on the triple trees under the fairing.  They make USB cigarette lighter adapters that will plug into the power outlet.  The outlet I have I got at Wal-mart (in the automotive electrical section).  It is sealed and has a hinged cover on it.  I wired it through a relay so it switches off when the bike is off.

I guess there is a charger that uses a cig adapter. Cut the plug off and wire it direct. Or instal a cig and plug it in there. Lucky for me I have a mp3 that uses AAA batteries. Got it in 06. Took a dump but found another on ebay. I tried to find a updated version but didnt like the fact I had to charge it. Wal-mart has the charger.

Canadian Tire up here sells a block with 2 cig lighter holes and a USB connector, about 4x4". Used it on my GL1100 to power an iPod Touch. As long as the circuit is isolated from the engine power it works fine (I used an Inverter). Someone like JC Whitney must sell something like this.
