What do you guys do that travel with a side arm in the states do when you want to go into Canada?  Do you rent a locker somewhere to store it till ya get back? A freind and myself might make such a trip one day down the road, just talk at this point, and I got to wondering about this. We both carry, with permits, here in the states and I ride my Valk with mine on also, have for years now. Really do not want to leave them at home for such a trip but I know you cannot carry across the border.

If you show up at the border, they'll send you back to an FFL to ship it back home. The locker rental might be a good idea. I'd rent two and keep the ammo in a different locker. BTW: It may not be legal to do the locker rent thing. Might wanna check first.

I waited so long to come back to this topic thinking maybe some of yall had done something like this, but I guess nobody rides with a side arm when traveling. As stated in first post, I put my holster on just after putting on blue jeans. Not paranoid, just a habit I have gotten in to. It is with me everywhere, every day. I know to take it out and store it before going into certain places and all that. Have had my licence for bout 6 years now. I remembered bus terminal, airports had lockers you could rent and that was the thought there, use one of them till ya came back into the states. I know to have it and the ammo out of your posession long before you are at a border crossing point. Guess we could always dig a hole and bury them till we got back ! ! ! ! No, really, I might call some city police station in whatever town we plan to cross over and find out from them what to do. I cannot be the only one that has wondered about this, surely.

If you decide to go into Canada, and go in at Fort Erie (Peace Bridge) I will store your firearms until you come back into the good old USA. Also into the gun safe you know I have. The only thing is to return the same way you go into Canada so you can pick them up. Let me know if you need my services....anytime!

kidcatfish - Not ignoring you, I've wondered the same thing... So far my personal policy is to just not ride somewhere that doesn't respect my human rights, but I know at some point I'm gonna hafta suck it up and just go, especially seeing as riding to Dead Horse Alaska is very high up on my personal "Bucket List".

As was alluded to in another post, one problem with the locker idea is that you'd then have to exit Canada at the same place you entered it, and for me at least, I'd wanna see as much of it as possible, and exit somewhere completely different...

If entering and leaving at 2 different places. From the entry point ship the firearm to yourself at you re-entry point. Do not send it by US mail. Non dealers cannot ship firearms via US mail.
Also do not ship it to someone else, also not legal.

This also works in the US if you do not want to carry it thru somewhere.
