Cobra, Venom, Venom-R. I ordered two Avon Cobras, just curious as to the difference. I also may try the no balance trick for a while, just thinking. Two tires, $313.98-$20.00 (CC20)=$293.98. Will apply for the $50.00 after receiving tires.

If I'm right the Cobra's are the discontinued line. And if that's the case I would check the date code on the sidewall. 4-digit code includes the production week and 2-digit year. If they're any where near 5 years old I personally wouldn't install them.
Balance, if you mount and balance them yourself you may get lucky with locating the rim heavy spot and matching the tires light spot. Both of my rims heavy spots are 8 - 10' from the valve. My experience is the odds of not requiring balance weight is about 15%. Not enough to just throw them on and hope for the best.

I put a pair of Cobra on last year. I ran several sets of Venoms before that. I got a flat on the rear tire. While slowing down the tire de-beaded. The bike wanted to go left (across the on comming lane). I could have banked it over to correct but felt that that would have put the rim on the pavement and the bike could have slid out from under me. There was a pick up truck a good distance down the road in the on-comming lane, but I had eye contact with the driver, and decided to slow down across his lane and stop on the far sile shoulder. At least I knew the pickup driver was knew I was there. He aws looking at me and comming up over his streeing wheel with a (what are you crazy kind of look on his face). Everthing came out OK.
I wrote about it last year on this board and another rider had the same experieince on the Cobras while leading a group of bikes. He was taken across lanes also, due to de-beading of the tire.
Has anyone else had this problem?
I immedeately changed to a set of E3s I lke the performance of the Avons but not if a flat may cost me my life. I have a few flat rears and one flat front and always been able to control the bike even ride it at slow speed to get it to where I could fix it. The Avon flat was uncontrolable even at 1 mile / hour
Please respond if you have had a Cobra flat, espescially a de-beading .
Is this an annomily or are the Cobras safe to use?

I think the Cobras are the newer Avon radials, the Venom are bias and the Venom R is a radial.

Had a slow {if you can call 15 or so seconds slow} rear air loss due to nail at 70 mph with a Venom R. I was able to coast to a stop with no de-beading {Thank you Lord!}. Plugged it & continued on our trip thanks to my handy dandy Wal-Mart 12V compressor & rope plug kit. Of course ordered a new Avon the next day. I have had good performance from both the Avon Venom-R & the Cobras that replaced them. Not such good luck avoiding nails in the rear tire only!

I received a letter from Avon stating that my rebate would be sent in the form of a debit card, which would bring the price of the two tires to $243.00.

The Avon Debit card is good for PURCHASES ONLY. In the past I have taken those rebate cards to the credit union for cash but that does not work with the Avon card. They charged me 1.50 to ask them why the card did not work too.

And only if the purchase amount is equal to or less than balance on the card,,, you can't use it to do a partial pay. I ended up using it for gas for the Valkyrie, but had to do prepay using this card. Still a $50 rebate just some hoops to jump through.
