why in the world did we NEED to go buy a new bistro set for the deck when we have perfectly fine patio furniture under the COVERED porch part of the deck??..... .....actually, we recently got rid of one of an old white, hightop, fake wicker set that had mildew growing on it....the next door neighbors asked for it instead of me taking it to the dump...let them pressure wash it and try to clean it up?!... ......I guess we did keep the old umbrella though even though it is white like the old set....I guess we just had to fill that big open spot on the deck again(dang deck needs to be pressure washed again) I figured we may as well christen it in right, so I fired up the grill for the first time this season...thankfully it still had a little propane in the tank and no obvious holes in the gas line.... .....that little old grill isn't nearly as fancy as those I've been seeing in pics of the recent BBQ's in the VRCC,....I guess it was bought back in 1995 when we bought the house...those old lava rocks are staying the course!.... ....... I love grilled onions and squash....and Abby wanted little thin sliced chicken breast pieces, so I put it all together and we had a pretty tasty meal...the weather was just right with enough wind to keep the "skeeters" away....... Oh, it is semi-Valk related because I didn't get to ride today so that I could take her shopping for this stuff....(and Lord knows she got ANOTHER pair of shoes!!!!)..... And what would any meal be without our little Chihuahua crumbsnatcher??!!

Hey that looks good!
Me and Carolyn went over the hill to Clayton last night to eat at a hole in the wall Mexican store/eatery that caters to Mexicans... been there once before... ate a couple of soft corn tacos with cilantro and squeezed lime and awesome red sauce, and we each had a tamale cooked in a corn husk. This stuff is only vaguely similar to the stuff at the Mexican restaurants that cater to Americans... sure is good, though...
Then, coming back over the hill to South Carolina, we stopped at Long Creek where a bunch of people were playing bluegrass gospel songs. We listened a while and and got an ice cream cone... they (the locals) mostly play every Friday between 7 and 8, then a more professional band comes on... I'll be back for the 7 O'clock hour again soon...

I may have to try that place out today because I'm headed up there to see my Mother.....I wonder if they have good salsa and chips?.....and regular burritos and tacos?....I guess Mike was talking about the Mexican place there at the motel at the "Main" traffic light on Hwy 441 where it meets Warwoman road?....

Here's another place for you guys to try sometime when you are in Clayton.....it's on Main Street(old 441) .....they have a big selection of country foods....and their fried chicken breasts are HUGE...I haven't been there for breakfast, but I bet it's good too......I'm torn about going there or the Mexican place today.... http://www.urbanspoon.com/r/149/930907/restaurant/Georgia/Clayton-Cafe-Clayton

I think the place I'm talking about is neither of those places. I think the place I'm talking about is next door to "lacabana"... it is like a little grocery store... nobody speaks english... there's about 5 tables... I don't recognize a lot of the stuff on the shelves.... four tacos, two tamales a bottle of coke and a bottle of water cost $11.00... there's was a couple of english speaking customers last time I was there, none this most recent time... there's unboned chicken pieces inside the corn-husk-wrapped tamales... Here - I just googled up a place called chowhound.chow.com talking about it: We have not tried the White Hall Inn. With Henry's off a bit this year, our go to place is La Jerezana-- Fri night to stock up on the tamales when they are fresh starting around 5:00 PM $9.50 or $10 a dozen or $1 each eat in, Sat when the carnitas are fresh or Sunday for the Barbacoa de Chivo, either tacos or a big bowl of meat and consomme. The Oaxaquena cook is back in the kitchen, and almost everything is aces. The tortas are terrific Some Tennessee folks should come down this way for an over-nighter... some of us Georgia/SC folks could ride up to Deals Gap on 28 on a Friday to meet them, we could all come back down this way and eat at one of the Mexican places, or at the awesome BBQ on 76 (Steamer ate there once) and listen to the 7 O'clock hour of bluegrass and eat ice cream cones (if it sounds like a Mayberryish atmosphere, it is)... There's one of those two story park-at-your-door Days Inns in Seneca, maybe some other choices, Ida know... if it is just one or two people I could put them up at my house... we could take off towards Hot Springs on Saturday and go over Crabtree Mountain at Canton, NC... everybody knows about 215 up to Canton and 209 over to Hot Springs, but the first-gear-switchback awesome-view-at-the-top Crabtree Mountain road would probably be a pretty cool new adventure for most... -Mike

I was imagining a two day ride that ends up near Clayton, and passes through Canton the next day. When?... Ida know, there's a lot of rides coming up... I'll probably do this ride in reverse to get to the Treehouse ride (AKA Britman's Memorial Day Ride) at the end of the month... I looked at the schedule when I was there long enough to know that bluegrass will be happening at 7:00pm the next couple of Fridays (and probably most Fridays...) -Mike

If you try to go thru 28 there are detours just outside of Franklin, they are trying to widen the road.

All of 28 is is detoured down a pig-trail (it's a nice old road with nice houses on it really) named windy gap road... I found it right about the time I started getting cold after riding five hours in the rain a few weeks ago -Mike

Went backup there tonight... ate at the Brasstown BBQ just off 76 in SC... me and Carolyn both had ribs (mmmmmm), and she couldn't eat all of hers, so I had to help ... went on up to the bluegrass place (Silver Dollar Music Hall) and listened to the locals play. I'm on call and it turns out my phone doesn't work up there, so we had to skedaddle back... -Mike
