Several months ago there was some discussion here about how to get rid of armadillos. Well, we got it figured out. Just train your bird dog to hunt armadillos. We had one that was coming out from under a neighbor's house or so we thought. At least I'd seen it run that direction and could never get off a good shot. A few weeks ago, Chris, our youngest son shot one in the back yard. Thought we had the problem solved. I had even sprayed the yard to get rid of the grub worms they were after. No new digs since Chris's kill. Well, yesterday we found some fresh holes. Patches and Dixie would go crazy barking everytime one would be out there. I'd go out, let em loose, they'd run circles around their pen, through a stand of plants I had planted but no armadillo. They were at it again tonight. Let em out, no armadillo. The second time, Patch's, the girl in the pick wouldn't come out of the bushes. So I went in, armed with a 12 ga and a flashlight. Low and behold, there she was about waist deep in a hole digging her way closer to the varmit. I called her out, she heeled then went back at it. The second time, I could see movement, got Anita to hold her and blasted away. Kinda dark down there, not sure if I hit it. But only 3 feet from me, couldn've missed. Shot again to make sure, no movement. Then, I saw it's side, to the side of the bottom of the hole. Chris had just come up with his gilrfriend. She gave him her 380 and he passed it off to me. 2 rounds then that sucker came charging outa the hole. Nearly runned over me. Shot point blank as he hesitated, fired another round about 3 feet from me, He scampered out ot the shrubs. All Chris had was a shrub trimming shear. He beat the punk out of him, grabbed him with the shears and whacked it's head off. He finally quit moving. Found three holes. Patches was goning nuts over her kill. She got rewarded with left over steak from today's Mothers Day lunch. Maybe not the cleverest way to rid the yard of armadillos, but from now on, if Patches and Dixie bark, I'm lettin em loose and followin em through thick and thin. Poor Dixie went and hid in her dog house. I had to coax her out. Been over an hour now and all is quite. Think I'll put the shotgun up for the night. Gotta go check in for jury duty in the am. whooopeee.

Ick! We are over run with these critters now. Never saw them in years past and now they are more dead on the road than possums. Very cool girlfriend packing a 380! A keeper.

Nice to have a .380 that works. My kel-tec is going back to Gander. It's a single shot with a clip!

I just take a walk around the yard a couple of time each night. I get about one or two each week. Where on earth are they all coming from? The buzzards LOVE me! They stop by on a regular basis just to see what goodies I have for them. A nylon 66 and a 1 million power spot light is what I use

Not trying to hijack the thread, but what ammo do you use in your Kel-Tec? I run Winchester Ranger 95 gr. T series (hollow point)for defensive loads with no feed problems, and have run a couple of boxes of (relatively) cheap ball through with no problems. I know three others with P3-AT's that haven't experienced feed issues.

That's one tough SOB if it wouldn't go down with a shotgun.... check your loads. I bet 000 or 00 buck might do it (otherwise try slugs). As for the 380 issues..... get a KelTec PF9.... got about 2 - 300 rnds thru mine and no misfires... only 1 FTE within the first 50. 9mm are cheaper to shoot than 380's anyhow and the PF9 is just about as small as the 380. Hunt on...... I baited the trap this morning for Ground Hog activity (celery with Peanut butter). Lately the squirrels have been stealing the bait, so I have to come up with a better plan.

I had birdshot and he was off to the side at the end of his burrow. That's when the 380 came into play. the shot gun is loaded with 3" mag turkey loads. Don't want to tear up the heighbor's barn too bad if he runs between me and it. I think I'll pack the SA 40 cal as well from now on when dillo huntin.

Armadillos carry the Bacteria that cause Leprosy. Not to worry. Fewer than 5% of wild armadillos carry the bacterium and it's commonly believed that 95% of humans are immune to the disease.
The only (very, very few) suspected cases of transmission from armadillo to human were the result of humans consuming under cooked armadillo meat.

Natural death = I removed its head so quite naturally it died.
(Sorry. Couldn't help myself. And, while we're on the subject, what kind of death is unnatural?)

LOL, never a dull moment!!! We have had some promblems with cyotes around here and if I am outside around dusk, I carry sumpin big enough to get the attention of the ones that didn't get shot (cause the one that got shot is most likely completely gutted and quartered). Besides the yearly rattle snake, it's a quiet placeto live. Cheers

Your right Willow. Shot at least 3 times, head removed and, naturally, he died. Or did his heart stop beating and he died. Something like that,,,, Patches did good. Second time going down the hole, the dillo drew blood. Now she really hates em. Got me a sure nuf dillo huntin dog. All has been quite since this round of dillo death by pruning shear.

And... The disease is not especially contagious; researchers think that 95 percent of humans are naturally immune. Leprosy is treatable, and a vaccine is currently available.

I posted above about the decreasing snake population when traversing around my house.
Today, I was outside in the back yard and almost stepped on a pigmy rattler, about 13 inches long. Needless to say, it didn't take long before it was amongst the dearly departed.
It was honored as the 1st one for the year!
