Spent this winter obtaining a few accessories I want on my tourer.  My main goal was a Zumo 550 GPS unit.  I saved my nickels and dimes and now I am having trouble ordering it because I see other great units for a lot less.  I know these are not made for cycle use, but I also know there are valks out there using automobile GPS units.  Have these worked out for those using them? What are the pro's and con's .  I know it would have to be removed to a dry place in the rain, but other than that???????

I already have the JM CB unit I wanted, a switch kit for accessories, and plan on ordering a Wolo horn (or similar).  I want to get the GPS before I start all this, but here we almost ready for bike trips.

I need to get busy and get all this done so any info will be appreciated.

I would not trade my Zumo 550 for any other GPS. My wife just bought a TomTom for her trike, and now she regret...
The Zumo550 is easy to operate with gloves.

I agree with Dag.  Love my Zumo 550.  I also put on the JM2003CB unit.  The Zumo 550 works very well with it.

I have the Zumo 550/GM30 XM Radio, Bluetooth Cell Phone, Bel RX65 Pro Radar Detector and J&M2003CB.  Makes for an outstanding Motorcycle System.

I got the Zumo 550 and love it and have no problems. I bought it because I wanted XM radio. A freind put a Nuvi on his HD and his complaint is he can't see because the sun washes out the screen. An other freind got a Zumo 450 for his HD and he is very happy with it specially the price difference. He didn't want XM radio or Bluetooth, so that was the best way for him. I told me if he decides he wants Bluetooth he can always get a Bluetooth dongle form the 450.

I have a Zumo 450 and love it.  Got it as a Father's Day gift last year.  Probably would have bought a 550, but I'm now glad that I have the 450.  One of the reasons I ride is to get away from the telephone.  I can always check my cell phone at the next gas stop.  I installed the Zumo with the Kennedy Tech installation system and the music from the MP3 player in the Zumo is as good as any Bose system you ever heard.  cooldude

No doubt, the zumo is good, if you want to spend the bucks , I got A nuvi 650, does everything I need, including music, got about 12 hours music loaded on it.
sometimes in very bright sun, can be hard to see, but is fine most times, also zumo has more glove friendly useability..

I'm guessing that by looking at your install that you cut off and drilled the swivel ball and then mounted through it to the gas tank bolt location. Is that right or is there a simpler way. Anyway, your installation looks tidy and I'd like to go that way if you'd be so kind as to share you knowhow!

If anyone is looking at buying a Zumo 660 let me know.  I payed to become an AMA member to get the 20% discount and can buy 1 more this year.  I am more than willing to help a brother out with the discount.
