As some of you already know, I've had neuro-muscular issues that have stemed from my spinal chord. I've had issues with equilibrium, muscular deterioration, and and other severe problems that were not properly diagnosed.

On this coming Monday I'm haveing more extensive spinal chord/spinal column surgery. This will permanently limit my ability to move my head in order to stabilize my spinal chord.

My recovery time could be from three to four months and muscular atrophy should be limited as there might not allow further nerve signal damage to the affected muscles.

I never imagined that my life could take this route. I had always hoped that my demise would be the result of doing the something like dying while having sex or while on my motorcycle. It seems neither scenario is going to be possible.
I hope that I will not be a big bother to my wife or family.

I'm still planning on comming to IZX if possible.

Hang tough.     I've also got some muscle degeneration, that the Dr's say is because my shoulder needs replaced and I can't use it to keep the muscle tone.

Will be praying for a full recovery with lots of neck mobility.

If that no happen, TRIKE...........    I've had one for 23 years and she is still racking up miles...

It has always made it home under it's own power.

No, that is not me, that is Highbinder...

I realize you are facing some scary times.

Praying for you as well.

There was a guy who rode the Dragon two years back and he was paralyzed some time before that.

He had a automatic kick stand and center stand.

His wheel chair would swing around on command and he would dismount and wheel around in it.

This was an amazing site to see.

I saw it personally so no chance it ain't true.

Never say never and a trike still has you in the wind man.

You don't know me as I'm new to this forum. If you haven't already done so, submit to Jesus and ask Him to be your Lord, Saviour and guide. He didn't bring this storm but He is the way through and out of it. After that, take Hoser and Smokin Joes advise about a trike. There are more available than you can imagine.

All the best,

Mark

In response to Smokin Joe and others; my condition is not fully understood, but it may be genetic. I have OPLL (Ossification of the Peripheral Lateral Ligaments) and it is extremely rare in Caucasions. It is common among certain oriental groups.

My spinal chord is expanding within the spinal colunm due to calcifiction of the ligaments running along the spinal chord. In short, the ligaments are turning to bone and thus cutting off the signals from my brain to my extremities. So my muscules are not receiving signals from the nerves at the spinal chord.

I'd like to think a Trike might be an alternative, but my arms/hands and legs/feet are not responding to what I want them to do. I've recently modified my Rat Rod Valk to allow my ankles to rotate  and shift better but I have not been able to ride for about a month now. I have become very weak in a very short period of time.

I had started to turn my I/S into a Super Valk and I simply could no longer turn a wrench or hold on to a screwdriver. As a matter of fact Kickstand came over today to help me finish it enough to be able to get it over to my in-laws for storage.

Kickstand is a pretty remarkable guy; as he lost a leg in a Valk versus car altercation. I thank God he came over today, as he has had his own share of medical issues far beyond the loss of his leg. How do you thank friends that take time to work on a bike that I may never even be able to throw a leg over again.

Momz, I'm at a loss for words except to say that you're in my prayers.

I also looked up your disorder because I've never heard of it.  Along the way NORD popped up.

Stands for National Organization for Rare Disorders.  It has a off shoot group of people that interact and support which is called INSPIRE.   One person who also has your disorder was asking for help in locating a physician that was familiar with OPPL.

Just a thought.

Keep fighting George...I have found when life throws something at you, getting angry at it is healthier than becoming sad, helpless and hopeless (depression).  Please make sure to look for me at InZane...we have some stuff in common right now.

Momz,

Believe it or not...there is life after motorcycling....you just have to go find it.  I've been battling cancer for six years so I know something about looking down a dark road.  Life is good.  Make the most of it.

Remember....an oak tree is nothing but an acorn that stood it's ground!

Good luck!

Where there is a will..there is a way! Dont loose your will and with Gods will on your side the future will be better than it seems right now. Cant loose hope unless you see and predict  the future better than the rest of us. Wink
