I guess some cops believe bikers a criminals just because we ride.
This is just so wrong!

Wow! Yep, that's wrong to shoot anybody in the back when you aren't even sure they have a weapon. That cop is going down. I'm sorry to hear that rider is paralyzed.

Hell, I hope the cop get the full sentence and that the family gets a bajillion from whatever that jurisdiction was.  That was just cold blooded and malicious!

I have always said that cops (and I was one for 26 years) are no different that any other profession, accountants, lawyers, doctors, priests, etc. There will always be a certain percentage that do not belong in the field they are in.

That looks to be the case in this shooting. That cop over reacted, and that film clip clearly showed it, unfortunately in that line of work when you over react catastrophes are the result.  It is hard to tell what the reason was for the shooting, could be nerves, could have been adrenalin, could have been fear, but it does not matter, he should pay the price for that one.

So who the hell shot him, the cop that entered the frame from the left side was drawing his weapon as he approached the biker?

Will,
It does not matter who shot him, even if it was a cop (shooter) was out of the picture, they did not have a reason to do so, he clearly did not have a weapon in his hand.

Tigger,
Re-read my post, I am in no way justifying that shooting, only pointing out that there are some people that should never have been put in a uniform! Just like some people should not be in other professions.

I watched that several times, there is no way that shooting should have occurred.

saddly the cop might get 3 years in jail, the rider will never ride again.

i don't care much for the whole harley tough guy image, but seriously, what did that rider do to deserve getting shot?  looking at that video the guy was just dumbfounded, wondering why he was getting pulled over in the first place!

as for the cop being a person just like you and i, i would have to disagree with.  when he puts on that badge, he makes himself a super hero for some, and a dictator to others.  if i were that biker, i'd be shot too.  i would have acted the same way that biker did.

The rider is not only paralyzed, but he lost his leg, because after the shooting, the bike fell over on him, and the exhaust burnt the leg so bad it had to go.

What a shame.  Talk about trigger happy!

The rider was astride a bike, facing away.  Even if he had a gun, the cop had a couple seconds before he could have turned enough to even attempt a shot at the cop, and that would have been a very poor shot at best.

The officer was convicted Friday and his sentecing is in June.  He is facing 11 years in prison.  I sure as hell hope Ohio doesn't have any early release programs and he gets the max.  Not that I feel sorry for him but he will have a tough time in prison as a former cop.

I'm sure both the officer and the biker would like a do over.  Too bad it can't happen.  Some cops over react (as this one did) others under react and are taking the big dirt nap as a result.  I thought I wanted to be a cop, but 3 years as an MP taught me it's a thankless job, and if the criminals don't get you your superiors will.  I got tired of dealing with Aholes all the time and found another line of work.

Yeah, this one was a no win situation, it never should have resulted in a shooting.  I really feel for the biker, I have sympathy for the cop as well, but he must account for his actions.

As stated previously, keep your hands on the bars until the officer realizes you're not a threat.  While it's not an excuse for the shooting, I think the bikers move in turning to face the officer while his hand appeared to be coming from his waist was what lead to the shot being fired.  It was not justified, but if he had produced a weapon, the cop would only have been defending himself.  Losers all around on this one.

As an accountant, I'd like to say this statement does NOT apply to ALL accountants.    Grin   Some of us may be well armed.    Roll Eyes

Just like Jim C said there are cops who should not be cops but are. And frankly I'm sick and tired of these shallow minded people grouping all the cops together. Good cops can not be held responsible for the actions of a bad cop just like a preacher being responisble for his church members why they go astray. So fo all you shallow individuals who think all cops are bad and intentionally shot unarmed people and have a badge to take advantage of people, CALL A THUG NEXT TIME YOU NEED HELP!!!!!!!!!!! cause you dont deserve the protection of a cop if you think they are all alike.

AMEN!  cooldude And if it paid what it was worth maybe we would have enough good ones to choose from that we could drop some of the losers before these kind of incidents happen. Any one that groups them all together should ask themselves.....Would you do it for that kinda pay? and are YOU worthy?

last year in july i got a speeding ticket. (i know i would have won if i took it to court).  after the officer gave me the citation, i shook his and and told him to have a good day then left.  i went to the DA to get the charges lowered, or considered as dismissal, but didn't.  the officer was there again, and i shook his hand and told him he was only doing his job and that i had no hard feelings.  once again, shook his hand and told him to have a good day.

no, not all cops are a-holes, but the one that shot that biker guy was!!!
