Electrical Snafu

I just installed a sidecar on my 2000 I/S this week. Finished this afternoon, and went for a shakedown run. Did a couple laps at the school parking lot; all seemed good. So, I hit the interstate, cruised about 6 miles to next exit, stopped, shut bike off to check tires and such. Got back on the bike and started up country road. Looked at speedo, nothing; no tach, no fuel gauge, no turn signals.
So stopped the bike again, left it running to check other things; head lights working, no tail lights, no brake lights, no radio volume, no neutral light. Anybody got any suggestions? Could not find any blown fuses. TIA

If it's an Interstate, that is usually the first sign of a battery going out.

I had a problem once similar to yours. Nothing on the back worked. Checked everything and could not find the problem. Finally just on a hunch, I stuck a new fuse in and everything worked. There was nothing I could find wrong with the old one but it must have been on the way out.

You might have pinched a wire putting it together. I'd start in the fuse box and trace from there.

Did you have the front tire off? It is possible to mount the sensor wrong and end up with no speedo. Tach should work though. Don't ask me how I know this.

Marty, I followed your lead, replaced all the fuses though, cured the problem! All the fuses looked good, but I went ahead and replaced them, maybe just corrosion around the blades. Anyways, thanks for all the input guys.! Paul
