The ADVAN A048 is Yokohama's Track & Competition D.O.T. racing tire developed for drivers who participate in autocross competition, high-performance driving schools, lapping days and circuit-type club racing, as well as are Original Equipment on the Lotus Elise Sport. The ADVAN A048 is designed to take Yokohama's advanced racing technology to a new level in D.O.T.-approved tire performance by delivering precise control, sure-footed braking and predictable grip.

I'm with John on this one Gary send me one also  Wink  I saw one on a Valkyrie a few years ago at the VOAI Ride In , in Helen ,Georgia. I talked to the rider and he liked the feel of the tire however you're more than likely to get more wear out of a Avon Cobra. I mounted a Fuzion ZRi on one of my bikes several thousand miles ago and I'm diggin' this tire it sticks great in the twisties and the wear is decent for a soft compound high performance directional .

Yea I run that tire, and Joe that was me at Helen Smiley

Its a sticky well mannered tire.  That said, its soft and wears quickly.  I run a 205/55/16 and it lasts me about 5,000 miles for $230 per tire.  So, Im not saving a dime by running it.  I run it because im on a supercharged valk and I want a large sticky contact patch when I twist the throttle.  The rounded profile is solid in the twisties and I too (like Joe) live in the mountains so it gets its fair share of those.

Also, the last one I ordered had a 2 month wait for it.  So, if ya want it now ya know the wait, price, wear ... that your looking at.  If I didnt have all this torque I would just be using what Joe runs.  Its got the Smoking Joe stamp of approval and that goes a good long ways for me  cooldude

Thanks for the replies.  I am really contemplating about going darkside for the two longish trips I'll be taking this season.  I doubt there will be many twisties on these trips, so a CT might do me good (especially with two up pulling a trailor).

I noted the tread pattern on this one and it seemed most like an MC tire so I thought there would be less of a learning curve and good handling.  Never noted the price (ouch!) and I surely don't want a 5K mile tire.

G-man:

Put on a General Altimax HP in 60 series.  If you do not like it, I will buy it from you at full cost.  I love mine.

I've read the the 55 series tires are the way to go.  Is the 60 series wider, or taller than the 55? (I believe the 55 series is a half inch lower in height than stock).  Forgive my ignorance, but just when I think I've mastered tire measurements, I find one that screws it all up.

The 55 is shorter, the 60 is approx. stock.  I believe slightly lower.

you wont lose more than 1 or 2 mpg by using the 55 series instead of the 60 series

You dont really ride triple digits with Cheryl on the bike so the top end doesnt matter either

I thought the bike got up to speed faster when I was running the Toyo  CT than with any of the MC tires
