of the ones who didn't come back, of the ones that have passed, and of our own that have passed. Fly the Flag in remembrance, whether it be 50 star, 48 star, Betsy Ross, or Flag of Defiance; our flags are part of our rich history and the sacrifices of our citizens in and out of uniform.. Wayne

I would like to add a few names to remember. Not killed in war though. Killed in peace time doing their jobs. They gave their lives just as freely but their names dont adorn any wall or monument. Sean Timmons 20, from SC. ; "Hank" Henry J. Horvath, 24 from Ohio ; Capt Stuber, from IL ; Capt Holland, from NC ; Cpl O'Neil, 20 from ??? .. killed in separate crashes in Oct 1988. During peace time. No wall commemorates their deaths. No monument remembers their sacrifice. Only this old Devil Dogs memory... Brothers, I remember you!

We owe these men and women a debt that can never be repaid, honor their sacrifice.
I have read a lot of books written by vets about their experiences. A couple of good ones are "Five years to Freedom" by Col. Nick Rowe, "Chained Eagle" by Everett Alverez, and Jim Stockdale's book (I don't recall the title). These men were all POWs during Vietnam, Alverez was the longest held POW. If you like to read, I highly recommend them.
Please reply with posts of similar recommendations of books written by vets, I'd like to get a reading list going. Thanks

On this Memorial Day weekend, I am grateful
I am grateful for those who have chosen to serve their country.
I am grateful for those whose service is their life. I am grateful for those whose courage is legendary. I am grateful for those whose honor is without compromise. I am grateful for those whose commitment is unending. I am grateful for those whose influence is felt throughout the free world. I am grateful for those who do not call their sacrifice by its name. I am grateful for those whose deaths were the price for liberty. I am grateful for those whose lives guarantee that liberty will continue.
I am especially grateful for a daughter who has chosen to be a United States Marine. Her example, her service, her courage, honor, and commitment bring honor to our family.
Thank you all for your service to the world.

My favorite veteran,, my son USMC SSgt.Rob Phillips 1st MEU 1997-2008, now medically retired And a big "THANKS" to all the family they leave behind regardless of how long.
A veteran - whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve - is someone who, at one point in their life, signed a blank check made payable to "The United States of America" , for an amount of "up to and including my life." That is Honor, and there are way too many people in this country who no longer understand it. -- Author Unknown

Great video! And Gear Jammer, i am proud of your Son also for keeping us safe when he served, I was not going to post on this it's a hard day for me every year, i lost my Dad on Memorial day 1980, 30 years today, he put his career on hold in 1952 and joined the Army, because that was the thing to do back then, to love and serve your country, He was from Michigan and was playing Baseball for the Wisconsin Rapids a White Sox farm, he went on to play AAA for the Army, Fort MacArthur San Pedro CA, i was 20 when he died and i did ask why he didn't continue, he told me by showing me his scare, he was a a Catcher and took a slide at home plate, it opened him up on his inner thigh and he almost bled to death at home plate back then, He was also a Golden Gloves Boxer. As i speak my youngest Son took off this morning with a 1/2 carrot Diamond ring and is driving to MO to pick up his girlfriend She is in Bootcamp and after 6 months graduating after tomorrow Army National Guard, he is going to propose to her at Graceland TN on the way home this week, So both my Kids are Military family's.
