BUMMER. The trailer started swaying like crazy in BFE. It was a rear tire on the bike flat. Only 70 miles to go after riding 1,800. Oh well at least I'm home

the tire was an avon cobra I haven't inspected it yet. I think it was about 10 miles loosing air. I was trying to make it to Llano because there was no shoulder and the grass was 3 feet high. so I,m sure the tire is trashed. Wow just checked tire mileage over 9,000 should have checked before I left. I had no idea it had that many miles on it

Hey Pat,

Glad you and Deb make it home safely.  I have had to replace a tire on the road because I rode the usefulness right out of it (had cords showing).  Not the most cost effective way to do things but at least I know I got every mile out of the tire I could.

Wow!  Had no idea you had such an adventure for the last 70mi of your trip.  Got your email last night with no clue...glad you and Deb made it home safe and sound. Smiley

Just by coincidence I ordered a new rear tire this morning.  My old has just over 12,000mi on it and would probably be fine for another 2,000 - 3,000mi, but I figure I'll be running at least 3,500 miles down to Inzane and back - plus whatever between now and then.
Better safe than sorry... Wink

FYI, thought long and hard about going Dark Side and even had that very discussion with the guy I ordered my new tire from.  He's actually considering crossong over on his long haul bike.  I just figured that now is not a good time for me, but I'm not ruling it out for the future. coolsmiley

Now that was strange.
This past Tuesday, June 1, I had just gotten onto 71 out of Llano, just past the highschool and heading east when I lost a trailer tire. Threw the spare on but did not trust the other tire. Backtracked into Llano stopped by the local tire shop and they showed me that the folks I bought the the tire from put 13" tubes into a 14" tubeless tire. WTF? The beads were trashed even in the tire that did not blow out.
So, two new tires later at my insistence, I made it to Marble Falls in short order.
I will have a short long talk with the store that sold me the tires when I get back to Colorado next week.
maybe a hex near Llano.
I take it you missed out on the bike wash that rolled through here last night, June 2. I did ok until the raindrops started breaking when they hit the ground, or my forehead. Ended up holing up in one of those car port thingies that people put out for sale...
