Today was a busy day for me.  I got my passport photos and made a bank deposit.  Then I headed off to Lowes to get a replacement bolt for the one that is rubbing my Goodyear TT.   tickedoff  I got a couple of good grade 8 bolts, one 3" and one 3.5" (5/16 variety) and trimmed the heads of them down by a little more than half.  I don't need the holding power of the grade 8 bolt, but I wanted the "shear resistance" that a grade 8 would give me.  I pull a trailer a lot!

Here is how I did it...  First I got out my handy Dremel tool and put a cut off wheel on it.

This is what the bolts looked like when I was finished trimming the heads off.  The one that came off the bike is the chrome one 2nd from the left.

This is what it looked like before I trimmed the bolt length down about 1/4 inch.

After trimming the bolt down a bit.

This shot shows the clearance that I have.  It's not much worse than the stock bolt head sticking out.

Just for grins, this is my tool kit I carry on my bike.  I need to look for a small metric 3/8 drive 6 point socket set to finish off the kit.  Notice the axle nut socket..  Smiley

Thanks for watching....  Smiley

With all those tools your bike should say "HD" on the tank. Cheesy

The only thing you are missing is the Cordless Dremel in your Arsenal  Grin

I ground the stock square nuts that go in the nut cages to about 1/2 their depth for the extra clearance.

Using a grinder to thin it down would be A LOT faster than a dremel cutoff wheel I think.  But still...

Nice work Bro!
