Doing some work on the valk and have decided to rebuild the fuel valve. I ordered my other parts from HDL but could not find the rebuild kit in their OEM parts section, am I looking in the wrong place?

Where did you guys that have rebuilt your petcock get the kit?

Thanks

Sorry, but I disagree wholeheartedly, as will many others who own a Valkyrie.  I have a '98 & a '99 and both work perfectly.  I did rebuild the '99 a couple of years ago even though it was working perfectly.  The '98 has never been touched to my knowledge.  Another reason for staying with OEM is that there are attractive covers available to alleviate an unsightly area of an otherwise beautiful motorcycle.  Oh yes, the fuel selector is turned on when the key is turned on and turned off when the key is turned off, without fail.  However, I do have enough gray hair to sometimes forget the turn signals for a few seconds now and then...JTL  2funny

I understand, you are assuming that the petcock is actually and positively shutting off the fuel supply! (Since you have not experienced any problem.)

Have you considered testing to prove the hypothesis?

I accidentally tested mine last week.  and it failed.  But my failure seems to be related to the knob extension, and not the petcock itself.

Ricky, I surely did test it before it went back into the tank.  Pulled a suction on the valve and clamped off the hose with a hemostat, then checked that I could not suck any air while in the OFF position.  Also checked that there was full air flow while in the RUN and RESERVE positions...JTL

I test mine by accident everyonce in a while. I forget to turn it on and drive off, it runs out of gas. I have a 98 which I bought new in July 98. I never turned the gas off until recently because I could smell gas once in a while while riding it. The odor was never present while the bike was parked. Anyway instead of worrying about it I ordered the electric shut off from the RV company. Once I get that installed and make sure it is working I will not use the regular shut off unless the bike will be parked for long periods.

Does anyone have directions or a procedure they used to install the electric shutoff? Maybe a parts list the used to make the shutoff fit.

Thanks

Just installed the Dan Marc. You will need a couple 5/16th barbed adaptor fittings for the valve. NAPA should be able to help. I cut about 1/2 inch off each though to allow for more hose length. File the ends to smooth them out. You may have to move the valve toward the front of the engine by changing the fuel lines around a bit. DFragn has some pics on here someplace of his setup. Mine is similar. I also installed a secondary filter as I changed my tank valve out to a Golan valve and felt I needed more filtering than the wire mesh on the valve. If you don't do the extra filter you might not need to shift everything forward. You only have so much distance to work with under there. One wire spliced into one of the black/white wires going to one of the coils under the rear of the tank and the other to ground, such as one of the coil mounts. You could use the black/white to trigger a relay and then the relay powers the valve. That's the way I did mine, as I installed a fuse panel triggered by using the black/white coil wire by a relay and wired the valve into the panel. Some just skipped the relay.  Doing a Dan Marc/DFragn search should turn up his pics.

Pharmboy, I went to a pingel to do the desmog(with a lot of help from Stude 31) and filled the empty spot with a chrome airhorn.  Hoser

Hoser, that sounds like a good place to put a good looking, loud air horn.  However, I really couldnt recommend letting Stude 31 work on your bike, because I taught him all that he knows about Valkyries....JTL  2funny 2funny 2funny
