Do you have to replace valve cover and cam gaskets when I adjust valves, or can you use the old ones over again?

I just adjusted mine over the weekend and ditto with the re-use and no leaks. I did use some lacquer thinner to clean up the mating surface on heads .... there some kind of yellowish color stuff on there .... maybe from the factory ????  Anyway, there was one residue drop of oil from one of the cover bolts but nothing since.

Curious to know if those of you that have adjusted your valves found them to be out by much or not?  I have yet to do them on the Valk, but have done them on the VTX and they were not out by much at all.... and the rear exhaust valve on the VTX is a bear to get at.

I've done them on my 98 Standard @ 40,xxx and my 97 Tourer @ 28,xxx Only found a couple of the exhaust valves on the high side - about .011" This is probably check/adjustment that only need be done every 75,000 or so. Cool

Everyone I talked to said they had maybe one valve out just a little after umpteen thousand miles.... Maybe..I'll probably leave well enough alone. I'll fix the broken stuff 1st

I just broke 50k  yesterday. My fuel milage used to be 28 - 29 with and without cobras. Now its 33 - 34. It used to get 20 - 21 miles to the gallon pulling my anti aerodynamic triler now it gets 24 - 25. Hadn't adjusted nothing or unscrewed the sparkplugs since day one.
