OK,
I know this is not a Valk topic, but I have a friend that needs straight 10w for her 49cc scooter.

Recommendations? I found a redline racing oil but I'm concerned about friction modifiers. It's a 2 stroke but uses oil in the crankcase and gearbox.

TIA!

I'm not a scooter expert, but I haven't heard why one would use 10W rather than 10W30 in a scooter crankcase.  As far as I know, other than the special requirements of a motorcycle wet clutch, a crankcase is a crankcase is a crankcase.  What make and model is her scooter?

Are you sure its not 2 cycle oil that your looking for? Most small scooters are not 4 cycle and so dont need regular oil and then most of the 2 cycle lube will be fine.

No, it's got a separate reservoir for 2 stroke injection oil. This is the gearbox oil only, I've discovered, not shared with the crankcase.

My friend says the scooter is slower with the 10w30 she put in a few days ago. Living at 8000ft, any loss of power is not a good thing, as this scooter can barely make it up hills as it is. It needs rejetting.

Will provide make and model after lunch.

Look at your new car and tell me what weight you run in it I bet it is for the most part 5w 20 or 30 with the tighter tolerances in newly built engines the thicker stuff will ruin an engine quick because it just cannot flow it to the bearings when cold this is why thicker is sometimes not a better choice. I thought the lighter weight oils that we use in new gassers were to increase MPG and allow manufacturers to comply with CARB. I run 15w40 in my car but it's a diesel  Evil

I will say this is NOT my scooter and I don't have intimate knowledge of it, but it is a 2005 geely 50qt 21.

It appears from looking at it, the oil in question is simply the gear oil for the final drive belt and auto trans. This scooter is a hunk of chinesium, and the person that owns it is not "wrenchy" enough to own it, IMHO.

I can't find a manual for a 2 stroke 50qt-21, but the newer 4 stroke models call for a 85w90 gear oil, which is what I would expect. It's now full of 10w30 which she's gonna drain and replace with the 85w90.

I would check what she drained out if its 90wt it will smell bad even though she put new oil in it will still smell. If it doesn't then it probably is what you asked for and should be available from a auto parts store. The new oils go down as low a 0/10 basically water so if that's what it calls for that should be no problem. You can also use synthetic no matter what oil you use. I couldn't find to much info on your scooter except a 8k elevation like you said there's not much there. I almost think a electric bike would do better. Where are you the Himalayas?

Whoa down Grasshopper.

2 stoke does not have a crankcase with real oil.
You either mix the oil and gas together or it has a seperate oil tank.  I think I heard seperate tank.

Go to the lawn and garden area of Wally World, or any parts store, lawn mower repair shop and ask for 2 stroke oil.       Dat be what ya need........

I have a 5 gallon can of it we use on the Benelli's and the Armachi.   If ya close to Iowa, come on over and I'll give ya a quart.
