what will cause a slight poping when i back off the throttle. thanks

Well mine started taht and I found a vacumn hose had craked and was allowing air flow . Check the hoses connected to the carbs. Hope that helps that was my trouble.

I had found a missing header bolt.  that was allowing a very tiny amount of air into the exhaust and would pop on decel.

What year is your bike??? Had the same thing this past August....Vacuum line had a hole in it....temp fix was electrical tape over the leak. Popping stopped right away...replaced with 5/32 vac lines from auto zone about $5.

Check out the screw clamps on the boots that attach the intake tubes to the carbs. There are two per. I just checked mine and two of them loosened up in 1 riding season.
Intake tube O-rings get flattened out and leak too. Any vacume leak can cause that.
