Ya, but this one is here on our shore....."president" Obama wont let this perfectly good tragedy go to waste......hes already stopped oil production.....now hes gonna tax the fire out of oil products.  All for no real reason other than because $6 a gallon gas will fundamentally change peoples behavior.  Thousands and thousands of oil workers out of work will fundamentally change the economy. The government is being urged to increase its control and oversight of oil companies.......Fantastic for "president" Obama.......just what he loves more power and control, His liberal counterparts have already let their "cat outta the bag" by telling the oil companies that the Feds will be socializing their industry, that there be some change!  I think we can begin to see the kind of "fundamental changes" we are in for......he will kill thousands of jobs, then create a handful and all you will hear is how his administration is creating jobs.

We need to clear all these BOZOs out of Washington.

Look up "the Jones act" and you'll find out why the people that cleaned up those huge spills aren't here helping clean up this mess. They can't until the government gives them a waiver to the Jones act. It is meant to protect union ship workers. The current administration has said that "no one has requested a waiver yet".
I thought they were running the show?
Bush issued a waiver to the Jones act for help after Katrina.
But I guess this mess isn't bad enough to justify bring in the big dogs yet.
Never waste a good crisis!

Right on the money Chris. I think it was Rahm Emmanuel who said that you can't let a crisis go to waste. With each perceived "crisis" the government tries to tighten it's grip on the American people's throat. And it was Maxine Waters that said they are going to socialize or take over "all of your companies", here's the clip:

The people are waking up, I just hope it's not to late!

I love it.  An absolutely horrendous oil spill and all you folks can do is pontificate as to why it is Obama's fault.  Like Chris... whoever you are... absolutely convinced that that the response is political and designed to bring more 'socialism' to this country... if Chris... whoever you are... could actually define the term.  It's a laugh good buddy... simply because you are so far out in right field as to be laughable.

To those of your who say less is being done than could be done because of a political end game, I say, "Bullcrap!"  Robert Gates has said the military doesn't have the skills to intervene on behalf of the military.  You can bet that every oil expert in the world is looking at this one because the regulations that will be passed will affect every oil company.

If you want to place blame, place it square upon those who oppose government regulation of private industry... like you Chris... whoever you are... who immediately attacks with nonsense words like 'socialism'... do you know what that is?... when efforts are made to provide protection against corporations that cannot and will not be responsible without regulation.

BP?  A 500+ page plan for the gulf that talks about protecting walruses, seals, and other cold water animals... nothing about gulf wildlife.  A contact number to an environmental professor at Texas A&M who has been dead for 5 years.  A leaking hydraulic system on the BOP.  A poorly set concrete casing plug.  An untested (at depth) BOP.  Pulling mud at too quick a speed from the hole... with disastrous consequences... all to cut costs.

So Chris... whoever you are... look in the mirror... you are the guy that insists that government regulation is detrimental to a free society.  I say again, "Bullcrap!"  Look at the 10's of thousands of jobs and livelihoods lost on the gulf coast thanks to a spill that is killing everything.  It will take 50 years at least to put things back to normal.

Things that make me go hmmmm are... people who ignore the catastrophe.

The measure of a true leader is not when times are good,  but when circumstances call for action.

As Bush stood on the rubble of 9/11,  who knew that would be the highlight of his presidency. The resulting rally of patriotism was like nothing seen in a generation or two -  maybe since WWII? Mayor Rudy Giuliani was a leader on the ground and fully supported by the Bush administration.  They were visible, leading from the front.   By the time Katrina hit,  all momentum was lost.  The handling of that disaster exposed our inability to effectively  handle a crisis.  The failings of Mayor Nagin and those in FEMA (appointed by Bush) were all too clear.  We then got caught up in the blame game.

Now 5 years later,  we are repeating the same mistakes.  Instead of an ineffective mayor we have the CEO of BP.  Instead of FEMA,  we have the Obama administration.  I don't need to see him picking up tar balls and staring out at the water during photo opportunities...  I want a decision maker.  I want my leader to lead from the front,  directing ACTION not just tough talk about who is at fault and going to pay.   I already know who is going to pay... me and every taxpaying person in this country.
Our president may be well spoken and well educated,  however I want more that speeches and reading off of a teleprompter.  I demand a president who is up for the challenge.
I haven't seen any of that yet.
I vote and this is just my opinion.

You are really getting a bit tired.  Name calling?  What?  Where?  C'mon, buddy... for someone who like to dish it out in the extreme, you fall pretty flat with 'name calling'.   Duh?  "Throw stones at my brothers"?  Do you know how weak this is?  I specifically challenged your numerous assertions about government regulation, and, as usual, you've got nothing to say except a bunch of empty words... WOW... Koolaid is very strong with this one... do you even have any idea what you are saying?

PS:  Reread your post.  You did introduce socialism, as usual.

I must have missed where anyone stated that this (oil spill) is "Obama's fault". Don't think anyone said that.
The consensus seems to be (by resident citizens with first hand experiences-not foreign dwelling agitators who pretend to have a clue but in reality do not), that there is legitimate concern with the leadership of this country not rising to the challenge of resolving the problem at hand but rather using it as another way to force more and more government control over us (those who actually reside here and are faced with it daily). That is as real a problem as any we face.
A real leader would listen to and obtain help from anyone who can aid in solving the problem. A real leader would see that as a sign of strength.
It isn't happening. We will suffer the consequences for many many years.
