i think we have a language problem here...
36 miles per gallon is about right..
now,, are you getting 9 miles per gallon or 42 miles per gallon?
if you are getting 42 then just go ride and enjoy it...

I think what he's saying is he's getting 9 MPG, and getting 42 miles or so per tank, if I'm reading that right?

galleto - Just to make sure we're understanding you, how many miles do you get out of a full tank of gas?

Apenas para cerciorarse de que el entendimiento que estamos, ¿cuántas millas Qué se obtiene de un tanque lleno de gasolina?

Then too could he be using liters in place of gallons?  Kilometers in place of miles?

Need to compare apples with apples.

Never heard of anything that bad.  Do not know.

Is the fuel line connected to the carbs, or just dumping on the ground?  LOL   Evil

I would expect youhave a bad petcock...and it is letting gas down the vacuum line into the #6 cylinder...

Other possibilities...leaks...at the petcock, or perhaps a pinhole in the vent line (inside the tank) and fuel is leaking out the overflow hose...

Stuck carb floats along with a bad petcock...fuel is leaking past and flooding the cylinders...

Anyway, I'd start with the petcock...

How is your bike performing?

Any issues there?

Do you smell a gas odor as you ride?

Could some of your buddies be playing a Trick on you.

Does your kid have a go cart and using Daddies Gas.

Is it or has it always been this bad/

If not when did it start happening?

WhAT COLOR IS YOUR BIKE.

KIDDING ABOUT THE COLOR.

Need some more info.

Is your choke or enrichener lever in the down position?

Is your cable broke to your choke. or become unattached.

Thanks

the first thing i usually check is the air filter.  i monitor my gas milage regularly, anytime it dips below 30mpg, and it stays that way, i'll check the air filter.  also, try a different gas station!  believe me (and most people don't) where you buy your gas, and the grade of gas, makes a difference on your milage.

good luck!  let us know what you find out.

I had an old Kawasaki that had a float stick open and gas would just run out of the overflow tube.  Maybe this is happening.  I can't think of any other way that a Valk could go through gas that fast unless it is dumping on the ground.

Did we ever establish if we are talking gallons and miles?

Or liters and kilometers.

I came across South Dakota  into a head wind, pulling a loaded trailer in the century digits and still got 17 MPG.

Was trying to outrun a Monsoon.  It caught me at the SD/MN line.

I heard a guy mention one time that he bought a Valk and it had a rats nest in the air fliter area.

But 9-10 mpg is like unreal and the thing is obviously still running.

You got me brother.

Your MPG is so bad you would think that raw gas would be running out of the exhaust or leaking on the ground.  Do you smell gas?

If you haven't already done it, check the spark plugs and make sure that they are the right ones properly gapped.  Also, pull the tank and check the air filter.  But it still sounds like you have a leak which is very dangerous.

Another question - - did your bike just start having this problem or has it always had the problem?

Good luck and buenos dias.

I'm with Daniel.  If the Valk cranks hard in the morning and there's a smell of gas or gas coming out of the muffler, it would be a petcock problem involving #6 cylinder and maybe eventually a hydraulic lock.  Not good. Not enough info though and too many variables.

I have another question.

Do you have black smoke coming out of the exhaust? A petcock isn't doing this unassisted, you may, as has been suggested, be leaking back through the vacuum line to # 6 cylinder, but there is a chance of hydro lock if this is happening. If you have a float sticking open in any of the SIX carburetors, it will be literally pouring the coals to one of the six cylinders and wasting fuel. Other than an out right leak, that's all that comes to mind.

Just to recap; if you have black smoke coming out of your exhaust, you are loading one or more of your cylinders and wasting fuel.

I would replace all rubber hoses, change the plugs (look for black ones) and do a compression test to make sure your engine is healthy. Be sure to have your throttle plate wide open when doing this test, you are looking for greater than 150 PSIG, (160 - 170 is very good).

Good luck with this.
