I've seen a posting like this that helped someone so I thought I would try it. I'm in the Holland area and looking for a good, honest Mechanic to work on my IS when needed. The shops seem to be too busy and very expensive. I'm willing to help with repairs but being a jack of all trades, master of none, I need guidance. Let me know if you're willing or know someone that can. Thanks, as always, for all the help everyone offers!

Too bad you aren't closer to St. Louis...but, you would have to wait until the u-joint comes in for my buddy's Standard...It should be here this week. Won't take too long to put it back together.
What type of work do you need to have done??

Check out stadtcycle.com. Dan Stadt is a fine mechanic and has done work on my Valkyrie as well as my Gold wing. He is respected and fair, and has always done a good job for my. In fact, I intend to call him today to have some things done on my Valkyrie

I can lend a hand if you need, I am in St. Joseph MI. I have done a bunch of work on my Intestate and have nothing but good things to say about the mechanic.

I wondered if I need to sync my carbs. My IS has a little over 51000 miles on her and this year the exhaust seems to have a smell of gas which I didn't notice last year, my gas mileage went from 38 mpg (average) to around 34. Over the winter I put on an Audiovox cruise and installed a K&N air filter which I just replaced tonight with a stock filter and checked all vacuum lines which look good. Carbs are untouched (stock), the only mod I've done to the bike was cut the piggies off a couple years ago and since then I noticed my headers are bluing. Maybe my right wrist is a little stronger than years before or I'm worried about nothing, that's why I was looking for someone who can work with me on my bike that won't charge an arm and a leg just to put it on the lift. Thanks for all the replies so far!

Carburetor Synchronization is a good idea, along with setting the pilot screws. Based on what you have done it is relatively simple process that you can do yourself no need to pay a mechanic. Send me an email with contact info and I can give you a hand if you need it.

Have you changed spark plugs? Have you ever adjusted your valves? Have you ever had a carb sync.? Have you ever checked your fuel petcock? Have you ever run sea foam through fuel system? If you say no to any of the above.....call fuzzy

I did plugs last year and Sea Foam every winter. I just replaced K&N air filter with a stock filter and put a whole can of Sea Foam into a 1/4 tank, ran several miles and let it sit for a day then filled tank. The IS seems to be running smoother and more responsive. I haven't run it long enough to check mileage, hopefully this weekend. I haven't touch the valves or carbs yet, that's something I'm not able to do on my own that's why I was hoping for someone to work on it with me or for me. Is Fuzz in this area?
