Whats the opinion of you guys that know, about Bob Dron Fairings.  I have a National Cycle windshield on my Valk and really don't care for it.  I have seen photos of the Dron fairing, its looks pretty good, not sure how it performs in keeping the wind off you.  Thanks

It does NOT keep the wind off you in fact it makes the wind hit you harder ...I love it in the hot southern summer.If wind protection is what you're lookin' for the Bob Dron is NOT what you are looking for.

I have one on my 2000 Tourer, and its mounts were modified to use an existing set of Memphis Shades clamp hardware. I can run the Dron when I want minimal wind protection...the Fats shields for day trippin'...and the newly-ordered Memphis Batwing for those times when I need to press the Tourer into service as a long-haul road bike.

As Joe pointed out, you'll get a LOT of air over the Bob Dron setup - so much so that you'll probably be wishing for a full-face helmet when riding at speed. But on really hot days, this can be a Good Thing... cooldude

Thanks to you and Joe.  Does the Memphis Batwing Fairing have the radio set up as well?

No - just an outer shell. But then again, it's not $800 or higher!  Shocked

Do they have a mounting kit for the Memphis Batwing yet? Talked to them after the Chicago bike show in February and  they didn't know yet. How much for the wholw setup?

Their P/N 2321-0068 is spec'd for the VTX1800C/S (w/ 'exposed' forks) but will work with the Valkyrie...this according to a Memphis Shades customer rep whom I spoke with earlier this week.

The entire setup is listed at ~$400...but consider doing it thusly:

HDL has the mounts for $109;
An eBay vendor has the fairing itself for $189;
Another eBay vendor has the windshields - in different heights and colors - for $70 ea.

This gets you the entire ensemble for just a little over $360.

Memphis' air deflectors and chrome windshield trim are extras - which will add $80 to the overall price. I'm going to buy them for my setup and will also purchase all three (5" smoked, 7" and 9" smoked gradient) optional windshields. That way if Blondie is riding my Tourer instead of hers and wants a shorter shield, it can be fitted.

Memphis claims that the Batwing won't work with the Fats mounting hardware, but I'm going to try it any way. There's an extra set of mounting plates in my parts stash which can be pressed into service. If they don't work, swapping out four complete mounting bracket sets for the new Trigger-Lock setups is going to make this conversion project co$t!  Shocked

Yeah Fritz, I have been thinking about that route myself so I will be very interested in seeing how it looks on your bike. It is hard to follow the descriptions on the Memphis site. I assume that you can use the new trigger locks to switch between the new Batwing fairing and a Memphis windshield.

Mike,

Correct. You'll need a complete mount kit for each shield or fairing you want to use; AFAIK, Memphis isn't selling the side plates separately. I will make some inquiries and see if they plan to offer them as a replacement part, option, whatever...
