The U.S. Government has apparently reconsidered a Dutch offer to supply 4 oil skimmers. These are large arms that are attached to oil tankers that pump oil and water from the surface of the ocean into the tanker. Water pumped into the tanker will settle to the bottom of the tanker and is then pumped back into the ocean to make room for more oil. Each system will collect 5,000 tons of oil each day.

One ton of oil is about 7.3 barrels. 5,000 tons per day is 36,500 barrels per day. 4 skimmers have a capacity of 146,000 barrels per day. That is much greater than the high end estimate of the leak. The skimmers work best in calm water, which is the usual condition this time of year in the gulf.

These systems were developed by the Dutch as a safety system in case of oil spills from either wells or tankers. The Dutch have off shore oil development and also import oil in tankers. Their economy, just like ours, runs on oil. They understand that the production and use of oil has dangers and they wanted to be ready to cope with problems like spills. The Dutch system has been used successfully in Europe.

The Dutch offered to fly their skimmer arm systems to the Gulf 3 days after the oil spill started. The offer was apparently turned down because EPA regulations do not allow water with oil to be pumped back into the ocean. If all the oily water was retained in the tanker, the capacity of the system would be greatly diminished because most of what is pumped into the tanker is sea water.

As of June 8th, BP reported that they have collected 64,650 barrels of oil in the Gulf. That is only a fraction of the amount of oil spilled from the well. That is less than one day’s rated capacity of the Dutch oil skimmers.

Turning down the Dutch skimmers just shows a total lack of leadership in the oil spill.

The Obama Administration turned down offers to help clean up the spill from The Netherlands and the British Government just days after the explosion. They didn’t accept the British help because they didn’t have the proper paperwork. The administration still has not given the OK to allow emergency workers to use a Maine company’s oil boom even though they were made aware of the warehouse full of containment boom back on May 21.

lI wouldn't doubt that, from "Free Republic", who actually propose that President Obama is not a citizen...

The truth is, Dutch Skimmers ARE being used in the Gulf. There were some questions originally on their impact, and usefulness. Those have been resolved, and the shortcoming of the system have been ruled as not as detrimental as the gains by their use. You have to remember, BP has ever-expanded their estimates of the amount of oil escaping. True, maybe they could have used them sooner, but hey, Rush says the Gulf will "take care of itself"...

Just like a Mexican who Ilegally Crosses the Border and has a Child.

The child is a Citizen and that's all Obama is.

Born on a Island and barely qualifies as a Candidate for President.

Not American by Spirit and definitely does not care about your freedoms.

And, as a citizen, he is NO LESS a citizen as you or I. His mother WAS a citizen, regardless of your feelings about that.

Barely?? Being legally qualified is ALL that matters, the rest of the qualifications are decided by the voting public, that, incidently, voted him President. Whether YOU approve or not. I don't buy the "not American by Spirit", as nothing has ever indicated that. And as for freedoms? The freedom to DIE if you can't afford health care, or insurance? Well, we DO agree on one thing, that this is MAN-MADE, not a "natural" disaster, yet the Gulf disaster has the potential to be MUCH longer lasting, than anything else this world has seen. If the casing is cracked, as some very learned people think is probable, the leak may NEVER be stopped, until the well exhausts itself.

This is just ONE possibility:

This means that this is now an uncontainable gusher that is literally spewing oil up from dozens of sites across the gulf floor. The massive oil pocket tapped under immense pressure is now spewing out into the seabed. Capping the well does nothing. The oil pocket is tapped, the pipe is eroded and the oil is now spewing up to the ocean floor with intense pressure. Plumes are being generated everywhere. They cannot stop this. Human technology cannot contain a liquid at that pressure, especially at that depth under the ocean. We simply do not have the technology or know-how to fix this. We don’t. The relief wells are essentially useless now because the original well cannot be plugged so oil will always flow out of it regardless of how many other wells they dig.

should this be the case, there is NO telling at this point, how many species will become extinct, both from direct contact of the oil, and resulting from THEIR food source becoming extinct, due to the oil. I'd stick MY head in the sand, too, if it would help anything, but there's TOO MUCH OIL on the sand!

No one said Rush was the president...he's MUCH more powerful than the President...look how many lock-step Senators cow-tow to him...

You're right again, the oil WILL dissipate, eventually, IF they get the leak stopped, or even if they don't. The major difference is that manking MIGHT be around to see it, if the leak is stopped, but very well WON'T be around, if they can't. And even then I'm sure it will dissipate, much like the radiation from all the A-bomb tests...what's that?...the radiation DIDN'T dissipate??...it's STILL here??

No matter who his parents are.

If you like him vote for him again.

I voted for Clinton the first time for Health Care reasons and was laughed at by all my friends.

But what we have now is nothing more than a I am gonna be worse than Carter thing.

We still don't have a Health Care package in place and won't for four years.

How conveniant for the Dems. a election is less than four years away and they will

say again, wihtout delivering the package, keep us in or it won't happen.

But you start paying for it in Jan. 2011.

What a good deal we have struck.

At this point it doesnt matter where he was born..what sicko agenda he has ,who screwed us first or who paid who to say what! The problem is "politics as usual" and 10 years of red tape for a 10 minute problem!  Where is all that "hope and change" we were promised ?  Did it all get mired down in "politics as usual" or was it pushed aside for some political agenda? Hope and change was a cursed LIE ! If you still have hope you are in DENIAL and should seek professional help! If you see change ..WAKE UP ! You are dreaming (and probably need professional help)  The root of this problem is deeper than any oil spill,more expensive than any "bail out" or "stimulus package" !  America NEEDS change and WE WILL GET IT ! To expect it from any POTUS or corrupt congress is just sticking your head in the sand at best!         (Some of us have a good idea where you actually stuck it )

The real question is ...Can anyone save this country? Will it be a politician,a sock puppet for special interests,the return of the messiah,another Ronald Reagan,Bill Clinton's Cigar supplier ?

Or will it be THE PEOPLE ?  For the people BY the people!

Sir, we have done everything that could be done to avert the storm which is now coming on. The battle, sir, is not to the strong alone; it is to the vigilant, the active, the brave. Besides, sir, we have no election. If we were base enough to desire it, it is now too late to retire from the contest. There is no retreat but in submission and slavery! Our chains are forged! Their clanking may be heard on the plains of Boston! The war is inevitable--and let it come! I repeat it, sir, let it come.

It is in vain, sir, to extentuate the matter. Gentlemen may cry, Peace, Peace--but there is no peace. The war is actually begun! The next gale that sweeps from the north will bring to our ears the clash of resounding arms! Our brethren are already in the field! Why stand we here idle? What is it that gentlemen wish? What would they have? Is life so dear, or peace so sweet, as to be purchased at the price of chains and slavery? Forbid it, Almighty God! I know not what course others may take; but as for me, give me liberty or give me death!
