Fallston, NC (on Hwy 18 between Shelby and Morganton) is a small town that has a nice little resturant or two. It is located on a great two lane hwy that I mostly recommend (as it passes through Shelby and Morganton it is not very nice).

An oddity to notice: a yard that looks like a scene from a horror movie.
On the right side of the road (if you're heading North) as you leave Fallston's town limits you'll see a sight like this:

It is starting to tone down since its introduction in 2004/5.

This yard has an arrangement of signs and mannequins covered in paint, missing limbs, and holding signs.  The story goes that the owner was trying to get a guardrail up to protect against the slight curve and keep people from crashing into the yard. It is a 'horror movie' like setting of naked bodie on display to serve as warning, although it begs the question: is the arrangement of plastic naked mannequins holding signs more distracting than the curve itself?
