I'm modifying my stock pipes. I had found a posting that showed where I could order a 3in to 2 in reducer. Now that I need it I can't fined it . Could use some help with that , or better yet a common place to find this. Muffler shops are not the answer .

I did the Qexpress modification from the VRCC Shop talk. I used the 3" to 2" swage nipples from the company he suggested.  At the time I looked at some header collector reducer and they cost more then the nipples did and was thin sheet metal. How long would that last. Unfortunately the nipples are used on  oil platforms.  Anyway I like them and glad I did it, if I don't like the muffler I can screw on a different one.

Thanks, that was the info I'd forgot where I'd read it.  The people I talked to were good, BUT, the price is 42.00 not 11.90

42.00 is most probably the current price. At the time the mod was made and written, the prices were quite lower than now.

yea, that's what I told them. I also told them I was happy to be able to find them even at that price . Here' the story, I have viking Pipes right now, but my rust proof headers look not good. After reading [again] the info provided here I decided I can fix this by doing the mod by myself on my stock pipes . And it looks like what I'll end up with will be as good or better then what is or was offered by anyone. For what it's worth I'm using info from 3 different sources from shop talk to do this

Hello.  I too am making mods to the exhaust system.  please read my messages from a later post than this and tell me your thoughts.  this economy has made me look closely at costs and I think I have a solution using stock chrome (at least for now).  by the way I found cast weld reducers at a local pipe valve and fitting distributer for 26 bucks.  eventually I may try installing glass packs, purple hornies by flowmaster, but now Im content with my experiments.

I wound up buying 3" to 2" pipe reducers at the local steel supply. Schedule 40 was all they had, about 1/4" thick. Cut a 2" short nipple in half and welded those to the ends of the reducers to make the threaded ends. Then a coupler on the muffler and on a set of straight pipes, and I have my choices. Sounds real mean with nothing installed just the stacks, but I can't handle much of that anymore.

Also, I cut two notches in the ends of the muffler and pipes, and made a "wrench" with a section of 1 7/8" exhaust pipe with a 1/4" bolt through it to remove/install the mufflers or pipes. Just slip the pipe in and get the bolt into the notches, and I don't have to pull the stacks to swap them out.

shoulda took pics... Well, next time I have it apart.
