Okay. I'm officially looking for a good Interstate gas tank, with a fuel sending unit for my 97 Valk Standard.  cooldude

I just called Ultimate seats and they will alter my current Big Boy seat to fit the IS tank. Now for a few questions that you could hopefully answer;

  • Can I remove the gas cap, gas cap trim and petcock from my standard tank an install it on what every IS tank I filly find?
  • Regarding the petcock. Should it be replaced with a new one, rebuilt or just swapped?
  • If the IS tanks needs to be painted, do any of you know of a good place to have this done?

Also on order are some gauges from Motosens. Needless to say, one of them is a FUEL Gauge! lol. Can you tell I'm a bit psyched about all of this! Extra fuel capacity along with a real fuel gauge would be a really nice upgrade.

So,,,, if any of you know of a nice Interstate tank,,, please let me know!!   Wink

The gas cap and trim are the same I beiieve. I own both a standard and IS abd they sure look the same to me, never swaped then though. The petcock can be swaped as well. I guess you know the drill on the petcock. If it hasn't been rebuilt with a cover set in 3 years or more you should do it as well as replace the screen. Or replace with a Pingle as many have done.

Yes, the cap and trim will move over.  They are the same.
I would put a new cover set (diaphram) in the petcock while you had it out.

I am doing the same thing.  I got an IS tank, and also trunk and saddlebags with guards.  I have a 97 Purple/white so have to be repainted.
They are at TC Concepts in Topeka, KS right now.  Should get painted next week.  Willow said he was good, and I trust Willow's  opinion.  Will let you know.

I am putting a new fuel sending unit in mine.  Ordered from HDL.  You also need an O-ring to go on it, to seal the unit to the tank.  I mounted a Motosen fuel gauge and voltmeter between the tach and speedo.  Am very anxious to get everything mounted and start riding!
Let me know what happens.  There are usually tanks on ebay.  Will run $5-700 usually. Since my bike is a 97, it has F6 tank badges.  I believe all IS tanks have the maidenhead on them, so I got new F6 tank badges to install on the tank too.

I did a desmog with my tank and airbox removed.  However, I just removed the valves, stuck a bolt smeared with silicone in the tubes, and left all the tubes on the bike, rather than remove them.  If some EPA guy under Obama decides it must go back on, I just pull the bolts out, and reinstall the valves.

Okay, I might as well start getting these parts. Where can I get the rebuild kit for the petcock and would you still have the HDL part number for a new fuel sender?

Cover set is  16953-MBZ-B51    $27.22
Fuel sender is  37080-MBY-000  $58.80
O ring is  91305-MC7-000         $2.50

Order from HDL at   www.hdlparts.com

I always carry an extra cover set if far from home.
If going where valks gather, Inzane, VOAI Reunion, etc. I will usually take a couple cover sets.   In case others need.  Take up almost no room.
Good luck.  At least one tank on ebay now.
If you have a red and white valk, I do not think any IS tank will color match.

Well shoot; in that case you might as well get the fenders and side covers for a real change Grin
Seriously though you may want to have a screen set on hand, if your svreen looks like mine did you'll need it: screen set 16952-MZ0-003  $11.70
It comes with an O-ring = set.

What is a screen set?

It's the petcock filter & o-ring up into the tank where your petcock threads in.
