For those of you that were involved, how long did it take for you to convert LemonDrop's Interstate into a Super Valk Interstate? What items are needed to make the conversion and can it be done at just one wrench session? I've got something in the works but won't know for about a week or so. Think FAST BLACK.     cooldude

The conversion can be done in a day...if you have all the parts on hand.  (I wasn't involved in LemonDrop's conversion but did perform one on big_d's Interstate.)

You will need...
Taillight from a Tourer/Standard (with Gasket)
wire harness from Tourer/Standard for: rear section of fender to split (32103-MZ0-000 ) AND harness from split to right side cover (32102-MZ0-000).  You can get by without this but you will have to run new wires.  The Interstate only sends 4 wires to the turn signals instead of 6 for the Tourer/Standard.  (The stop lights are in the trunk.)  The Standard/Tourer harness has the proper connections for the stop lights.

I believe that is all you need for the conversion.

Once you replace the harnesses on the fenders, I spliced the brake wires into the brake wires on the IS behind the coupler.  That way, big_d could put the trunk on when he wanted to and the lights would work.  I also notched the trunk rails so it would go on easy.

The next thing you will need to do is the relocation of the radio antenna (and possibly the Cb antenna if so equipped).  Big_d's bike has saddlebag rails.  I used truck CB mounts (the ones that hook on the mirrors) to secure his antennas to the saddlebag rails.  I used the stock parts (antenna and all) to mount the antenna to the new mounts.  If your "new" bike doesn't have them, I would suggest getting a piece of aluminum and attach it to the bottom of the saddlebag support frames.  (I done this when I installed my wife's J&M radio on her bike and it works very well.)  If you have a CB on the bike, you will need a antenna extension cable to make the cable long enough (unless you put the CB in your saddlebag).  We placed big_d's Cb under his seat.

Unfortunately, I do not have the links I used to have showing the steps to convert an IS to a Supervalk.  I did find them using the search engine on this forum and Google.

Good luck with the conversion when you get your new bike.

Joe has done all the heavy lifting for you, Victor. The only thang I guess I would add is the "need" for another saddle, but you could probably move your saddle over from your old worn out two tone? ~Jeff

Jeffery boy, I just happen to have an Ultimate King Boy solo seat with Utopia backrest for an Interstate sitting in my garage gathering dust. I appreciate JoeValkIS responding and passing on his information about the conversion. I will order the parts that I need as soon as the deal is done providing that the bike's rear end is in good shape and the spline maintenance has been kept up. We will see. Pictures will be posted if the deal goes through.      Smiley

Mark,
I guess I shouldn't complain about working the hours that I do, with the economy being what it is, but that is the MAIN reason for my absence from the club. I work O/T during the week and then most Saturdays and some Sundays. I have plans to ride with our friends from Norway but my work schedule could throw a monkey wrench into my plans. The way O/T works at my job is like this: My boss at any time can come over and tell me that I'm working O/T that day and throughout the week  and won't tell me about working O/T for the weekend until the last minute. So, I can never really make plans for the weekend or wrench parties or rides. I can't tell you the number of times that I wanted to go to a wrench party but I had to work. Then when I don't work, the wife wants us to go out to a dinner and a movie. It seems as there is not enough time in the day to do everything that I want to do. I was floored when I told my  wife that I wanted an Interstate and I guess I could get rid of the Tourer, and she said why don't you get an Interstate and keep the Tourer.      cooldude   So hopefully I will try to make some of the meetings and not fall asleep on the way over to Dallas or back home to Fort Worth. There are times on the Thursday night of our meeting that I have every intention of going but I am just to tired from the week at work to go. I didn't mean to ramble on but I did. Hope to see everyone real soon.
