low enough to know whether that last flashing bar ever actually goes out?

Just curious.  I'm pretty sure I'll find out sometime.   Smiley

Only you would ask that question  Smiley...the answer is no, it does not stop blinking until you put more fuel in it.....of course yours may burn out from lack of lubrication from the fuel that is no longer there....I can see where this would annoy someone who likes to be kept on the edge of his seat all the time and doesn't like to be reminded that he needs fuel...its bad enough having to listen to your riding companions telling you when to fuel...right... cooldude Have a good weekend Carl and have a great Inzane...

Have never run mine out of fuel yet, Carl, but......

5/2/2009   63032      252.3   6.383   39.53000157

Last year at Cheaha, I did run mine for 252.3 miles before fueling (it was on reserve) and all it took was 6.383 gallons.

The light does not stop blinking.  But it does start blinking way before you hit reserve.  Once you hit reserve, you're pretty much in the same boat as you are on a standard.

Why would anyone shave a cow like that?

What they said.  I get such bad mileage that when it starts flashing, I better start looking.... I only get about 10-15 miles on the flashing bar before I hit reserve.  I know, because I am on reserve right now.  Grin

Only you would ask that question  Smiley...

lol!  Thanks, Don.

I needed to remove the tank so I ran it almost empty this morning.

This one I'm riding now gets the worst fuel mileage of any Valk I've ridden for any significant distance.  It hangs around 29 - 30.

Connie I don't think the Intestate fuel gauges very accurate.  I sometimes go on reserve with two bars showing and sometimes not until well into the final.

I need to run this one out once so I'll know how much I have on reserve.  I ran it 27 miles on reserve this morning and was disappointed at how much was still left in the tank.

You're getting good fuel use, Ray, but 6.83 isn't close to the bottom.   Wink

See you all soon.

I have never understood the need to empty the tank before removal.  I have done one completely full once, ya its better to have it down a bit, but anything near half a tank is very easy

Ours are both pretty consistent.  Never, ever hit reserve before the flashing bar.

I'm with you Chris, just had the tank off today completely full.  A little gas dripped out the vent but no big deal.  Not too heavy to deal with.

I just about always run mine down to reserve before refueling. It lets me know valve is working properly and fuel is there if I really need it. I had A bike that the port for the reserve plugged up because it never was used. I barely got to station to  refuel and I had to remove valve and clean port before to get it to work.

with mine, i run it until she starts to sputter.  i'll have now bars left, then switch it up to reserve.  even then, when i go to fill it up i can only put 6 gallons in the tank, and it's suposably a 7 gallon tank, right?  i've gotten pretty scared, out in the middle of no were, but i haven't run out yet!!

oh, yeah, don't forget to switch it back off of reserve!!  done that before!!  then when she sputters, you're SOL!!

6.89 gallons.
std is to have 1 gallon left at reserve
have heard the IS is to have a little more left.

So, 6 gal after hitting reserve sounds about right.

See you Sunday alph.

There is a splash guard in the tank that also blocks air from exiting the top of the tank.
If you poke a couple small holes through the splash guard near the top, the air can escape and be replaced by fule.
This alows almost an extra gallon of gas.
I used a small hand held bit. NOT Electric!!!!!!
If I rember right, it was very soft and eazy to do.
Then I used a magnet to clean the metal droppings out of the tank.

Disclaimer! This is what I did but I'm sure there is a reason Honda put that splash guard in the tank so I wouldn't recommend that anyone actually do this just to get 30 extra miles out of a tank of gas.

I put some holes in it too.  But instead of a drill and shavings, just use a small #1 Phillips screwdriver.  Angle it just under the cap, and get as high as you can, just like a bit.  A few good taps with a hammer, and it goes right thru.  NO SHAVINGS.

Last two fillups came after going on reserve. 1st was at 168 miles, last night was at 177 miles. averages 167 miles. then takes about 5.7 to 5.8 gallons if I fill up immediately. Have had to run it real close and put in 6.35 gallons.
