Hey Guys,
I De smogged my 98 tourer a while back, and I have a question concerning the carb vent lines that come from each bank. I remember reading here somewhere that these lines cannot be plugged. I have noticed the smell of raw fuel , yet i can not find any leaks. My vent lines now are terminated at the 3 way tee on each bank. Do they need a piece of hose on them to extend up higher above the float bowls .Not sure which way this tees should face.

If the lines you mean are coming from the bottom of the carbs, they are the drain lines from the carb bowls. They only work when the drain screw is loosened.
The fuel smell could be from the gas tank filler gasket. Some have insterted a shim piece to solve the problem. Maybe someone who has experience with this will weigh in.

My California model had to be vented, I put a length of fuel hose fromt the 6 way tee down the back by the clutch and terminated with a small inline fuel filter to keep dirt and moisture out. Determin whether you have a 49 state or Cal model and check in the archives for the correct proceedure for each, Hope this helps.
