I stopped by a dealer today and they had a Rocket III Touring on the floor.  It's the first I've seen in the flesh, and I have to admit it looked better than I expected.  154 ft/lbs of torque is sure tempting!

Theyare the most Valkyrie like bike of all the new bikes. They really are nice. The paint is nice too. Triumph quality shows through. The look of the engine kinda sucks, but how can you argue with that kind of power?

Still, I'll keep the Valkyrie.

The strange thing is they dropped HP & TQ and went to a narrower rear tire when the did the Tourer Undecided Still has tons, but I don't think it was too bright.

I understood that they dropped HP but raised TQ.  I have the "original" Rocket, purchased in 2004.  She has, as I remember it, 140 CI, 140 HP, and 140 TQ.  Easy to remember.  But maybe I remember wrong.  My rememberer isn't real good.

One of the guys in the Foxvalley Valkyrie riders has in fact a Rocket Interstate. go to http://foxvalk.com/ and check it out. Post a note and he will get back to you.

They dropped the HP on the Tourer to 106 some say 110 from 142 and raised the Trq to 154, i would buy one next year if i could elctronically put the HP back to 142 they are beatiful looking bikes since they changed the gas tanks and pipes!
But when done right the regular Rockets are great looking too , i just havn't heard one that sounded good yet even with after market pipes, must be the 3 cyl cadence ?

Had my own 2005 "R3 Tourer" for a year & a half. Absolutely LOVED the power of the 3 cylinder beast.
It had the Corbin hardbags, Triumph w/s, boards, backrest & rack, engine crash bars. Added Valkyrie handlebars & Rivco risers along with the obliglitory louder car horns. It had 3 different exhausts on it, stock which was whisper quiet. I ditched the stock cat box which is empty on '05s & made my own 2 1/2" stainless glasspack 3 into 1 exhaust. I think you can see it in this pic. It was VERY raspy & got louder as the miles piled up. Also the heat started to tarnish the SS glasspack.

Got a screaming deal on a used set of 3 into 2 D&D exhaust from a fellow R3owners.com member. Much better than my homemade set up both in sound & looks. It was loud when you got on it, you knew you had a real 3 cylinder beast under you! They look similar to the stockers but shorter & RH side only, no LH muffler. I recommend them.

I believe the R3T can easily be "retuned" to the higher HP settings & I'm sure the aftermarket will come up with a cool hi-perf set of pipes if they haven't already. I like the looks of the R3T but I wish they would have kept the dual headlamp set up of the R3. Maybe in a few years I'll get another R3. Mine is back overseas with it's new owner in Portugal.
Ride an R3 for some distance before you decide. Not as smooth as a Valk but it will whoop the Valk in any measure of performance. That's for sure!

Max hp is at around 5200 rpm.... don't spend a lot of time there.... but gobs of torque down low gets ya moving!!!!!!  I'll take the increased torque. Would like to see the dyno sheet to see where the torque curve comes in.....

I owned a Rocket III Classic and loved it .  I would definitely buy the Tourer if my finances were better.  The changes they made are appropriate for moving this into the cruiser market.  Also, I know there are tune kits that can be used to regain the HP.
