Between the three of us, we have ridden an average of 950 miles in the past 2 days.  With the exception of my trip from Houston to I20 in TX, we haven't had any hot weather.  We have been lucky to miss the showers along the way too.  Smiley

We met Mark (Rocketman) and another valk rider Ron for lunch in Alabama.  They rode with us for a ways and then split off to return to their homes/hotels.

We continued on through Georgia and into Tenessee.  We have finally stopped for the night in Sweetwater, TN at the Magnuson Hotel.  Hey, free dinner and free HOT breakfast.  What more could 3 Valk Riders want?

We're headed out in the morning to hit the Cherohaula Skyway, the Dragon, and then to the Blueridge Parkway up to Asheville NC for the night.

Here are a few pics I took along the way...

So what's up with the newspaper. Are you holding him hostage and trying to prove you haven't killed him.....yet?

Good to see ya'll too.

Oh, and thanks to RonK for being my guide for the day, and helping me catch up with my Texas buddies!

Too bad ya'll couldn't spend the rest of the day with us.  It was great.  Hit some good roads:

Stopped at a local bike night, where we saw some cool bikes.

Some unusual setups

But were glad to get back to the Valkyries

Good guess, but it's a "weekly" paper.  Cheesy

Maybe he can use that in the story.

Dave's in the house after just under 4,100 miles.  Showered, shaved, and working on his second Bushmills / rocks.  Yummy!  Going to grab some dinner (I'm not driving) and start working on a trip report.

Preview: NOTHING is water-proof.  Water-resistant?  Maybe, but not water-proof.  There is such a thing as too much evaporative cooling!  VTX1800C front fenders may look cool, but they sure do allow more spray to gunk up your engine!  TN & NC have the most wonderful MC roads I've ridden.  KY & VA aren't far behind.  The rolling countryside of Iowa and Missouri is really pretty.  The non-interstate portions of Wisconsin we rode were absolutely beautiful.  I wish the roads in the Lower Peninsula of Michigan were as good as the roads in the Upper Peninsula.  Continental Vanco DS tire Dragon tested and approved.

Disco - glad you are safely back after your long journey.  Did a quick check and there are multiple Vanco tires - which one did you run?  Isn't that a truck tire?

Again, glad you are safely back.

I got back at 1:00 this afternoon. WOW, WOW what an amazing 12 days. This trip gives new meaning to "America the beautiful". Had a great time in Bellaire meeting and making new friends. cooldude cooldude cooldude

It was great riding with Disco(Dave in Frisco), Hayhauler, Chip, T-Bird, Smoking-Joe and Tom(from Houston area) . I am already prepping for the next InZane. Clocked 4374 miles of which about 800 where in the rain. Looks like some of that same rain that flooded parts of Kentucky  Grin Grin

What should I use to post pictures? photostash is not working anymore. TJ

-----OK----- OK----- let me put an end to this. The truth is I am competing with daughters. It seems they are in the weekly paper almost every week and now it might be my turn. I am counting on the editor (it not about what you know, it's about who ya know)  to print my story along with some pictures. The idea came from Kathy who works in my office and she suggested I take the paper an hour before I left. First I have to catch up on a few things and than turn in my story before the DEADLINE ( Tuesday of next week). ---Oh and I can't help it that the headline is hard to read and the cow shows up really good.  2funny 2funny

I got home about 9 p.m. last night safe and sound.  4739.2 miles of FUN!  It was great meeting all the people along the way and had a LARGE time doing it.  Ride report is on the way.

Those that didn't go, you should make plans to go next year!

Clarify please!  I haven't hit the "too much" stage yet.

We rode 120 miles on the Blue Ridge Parkway from Asheville, NC to in the rain and fog Monday (it took 5 hours) on our way to 16 north into Virginia to 19 west to 460 north into Kentucky where we spent the night in Ivel.  The sky was heavy Tuesday morning but it couldn't rain two days in a row could it?  Only in biblical proportions.  We left Ivel and it only took 30 minutes on the Bert Combs Mountain Parkway for me to regret not suiting up or putting on my rain liners.  No exits, no turnouts, no overlooks and then a wall of water.  I could not have been wetter if I'd jumped in a swimming pool.  By the time we got to Lexington, Smokin' Joe and T-Bird had caught up with us, and we pulled off for gas.  I was very cold and shivering.  The air conditioning in the c-store didn't help.  I was able to grab a cup and pull the coffee spigot, but when it was time to pour sugar and creamer, I made quite a mess because my hands were shaking uncontrollably.  The rain gear went on and I warmed up quite a bit on the way to Indianapolis, but was still soaked when we stopped for lunch between Cincinnati.  More air conditioning but the sun was out.  Until we got almost to Indy.  We rode out of it again on 31 north to South Bend and were almost dry by the time we got to (appropriately on TJ's birthday) Holland, Michigan.  I think we did about 560 miles that day and more than the first 200 were in heavy to torrential downpours.

The first 300 on the way home Sunday were in the rain, but we were suited up and didn't get cold.
