Why would anyone shave a cow like that?

Broussard, Louisiana

« on: July 13, 2010, 04:52:18 PM »

I am not big on spending money as some of you may know, so when I was in Walmart getting some stuff the other day, they had this car wash stuff on sale for $3, so I figured, "Hey, it will last me a couple of years and is a better buy than just stealing....ummmm, procuring, some of Red's dish washing soap to clean the bike."

I had to wash the Colorado rain off of Traveler today and tried this stuff.  Man, it worked.  Bugs came right off and it didn't spot like Red's Dawn dishwashing liquid - plus I didn't have to sneak out of the kitchen with it.  2funny

Mequires Gold Class Car Wash.  Seriously, the stuff really does work a heck of a lot better than Dawn.

This is just washed and ridden around the block to blow some of the water off.  No wax or leather protector or anything on it.

Good stuff and worth the $3.  I mean the dried bugs came right off - no elbow grease at all.  I will have to polish some of the chrome - like the pipes, but other than that, it came out sweet with just a wash.

I was told dish soap takes the wax off the bike. I usually use the rain-x blue stuff with the wax beads in it. Used dish soap once out west. Bike looked like crap when it was done.

All the Meguiars products I've used have been first class...

That said, I got some Joe's Juice at InZane a few years ago... washing the bike with awater hose in
a dirt driveway reaches a point of diminishing returns  Wink

Joe's Juice and a cloth on windshield, painted surfaces and stuff...

Joe's Juice and a Dobie pad on wheels and pipes and other tough road bug encrusted stuff...

I bought a small electric leaf blower to dry my bike, great for preventing the water spots in the nooks and crannies. My kids love it when Dad 'blow dries' his motorcycle in the driveway..   cooldude

WOW! Electric??

Hope your using a good GFCI with that blower.  If not as a suggestion, get one.

I do the same, but a big one and it's run through a GFCI.

I went through a lot of stuff trying to find the best way to clean a bike, and car for that matter, with minimum effort and what I've found was the soap from the Mr Clean car wash system (which the system didn't work to my satisfaction) and after blowing with the leaf blower - a good chamois.

I used dish washing soap on the ST1300 once. The bike came clean but it stripped whatever coating MotherHonda had put on the windscreen clean off. It peeled like a bad sunburn. I took that as a sign that you're only supposed to ride, not wash, these machines! Get caught out in the rain every once in a while and then remove the water spots with a little bit of spray detailer.

Meguires stuff is great, I use nothing but the wash and the wax and I have never had a problem, the wax will protect even in the harshest of riding, the bugs come off easier and using the wash helps protect because it does not remove the wax. I swear by it and I have been using for years, cars and bikes.
