upstate

South Carolina

A while back someone gave me the idea it would be cool to travel across South Carolina on Hwy 9,
that's across the top of the state, or the "Pee Dee" "Sandhills" area of the state.

So Carolyn and I headed out for the beach on hwy 9... saw some cool stuff... right at the border of
Lancaster/Chesterfield counties we crossed the most awesome bottom land, all in corn, that I've
ever seen. High bluffs all around the bottom land, I'm sure that back in the day there was a
nice big house on the top of one of those bluffs.

We got hungry near Cheraw and stopped at Bill's BBQ buffet... mmmm... after we left we backtracked
a little, to a little airport we'd passed where there were some cool airplanes... asked for permission
to poke around and take some pictures...

There are crashed planes and junk motors and planes in all states of repair
and refurbishment there...

Here's a sweet old Church building, also in Cheraw...

We got to the beach on Thursday afternoon and headed straight into the surf to body surf...
good thing... winds were way up on Friday, so the wave weren't "marching in like soldiers", but
all chaotic... no body surfing that day... we rode up the waterway in the boat to eat a
"shrimp burger" at a place in Holden beach, then back down to Ocean Isle...

We came back home across the middle of the state... stopped in Sumter... there's a Honda shop
in Sumter, so naturally I poked around in the corners... I never really wished I had different
levers, but I'd never seen these before and they were on "fire sale"... they had one of those
OEM driver's backrest kits too... they said they'd let it go for around $60... I bet it and a 2000
or newer seat would be pretty comfortable...
