I am not usually one who reads directions & applications but I recently downloaded the manual for my Garmin ZUMO 450 Motorcycle Navigator. This thing is much better than I first thought was possible. I just never looked into it before. I just used the normal MAP thing. Then I read an atricle in Iron Butt Magazine on G.P.S. systems & I saw a picture of a G.P.S. unit with all sorts of numbers such as time moving, time stopped, total time of trip & mileages accumulated for total trip & a whole plethora of information. I tried it out yesterday on my ride & it was pretty kewel. We have an Iron Butt ride coming up next month & I will definitely use some of those goodies. I have read the whole manual & some parts several times while playing with the G.p.S. to get familiar with it. Pretty good manual. Well, I hope everyone has a nice safe day. tommy t coloradolongridersmc.com

Nope. Always went to AAA & got the paper maps. Still have some pretty old ones. The map printing business must be hurting these days. I used to own a Gas Station in California & we gave them away free to customers. I used to buy them by the case load. But, like Roosevelt said, "There is no such thing as a free meal." I hardly ever leave my house without my G.P.S. anymore. Great little tool. tommy t

The mapping program Garmin uses STINKS... Luckily though, you can create your route on a better program (I use Microsoft Streets and Trips), then feed that route into GPS Babel...

GPS Babel is a (Free!) conversion program that can take just about any mapping program data file and convert it into just about any other one... So, you can make your route on Google Maps, then have GPS Babel convert it into a Garmin route, feed that into your GPS, and off you go...

Here ya' go:

The map printing bidness is doing great by me these days... I've got one of these for SC, NC, VA, WV, TN
GA, and KY)... as best as I can tell so far, every road, even dirt roads, are in them...

A state costs $19.95 most places, but googling for the above image I see that they might be just
$12.00 at Wally World...

I have done it with MAPSOURCE on several occasions & had no problems. MAPSOURCE has a Mini-Tutorial thas has some good info in it. I planned a California trip & a Tennessee trip & had no problems.

Thanks,

Yeah, I agree the Garmin maps stink, I always thought it was me, and then had a friend try it and still no luck. I will try the link you gave me.
