Highbinder posted "I learned that a stock 1500 Goldwing centerstand will bolt right up to a valk and will not drag in the curves.. "
in his gathering of the fools post.  Has anyone here done this?  Do you just need the stand or mounts as well?  Any Pics?

Thanks in advance.

I agree,

After reading that post I checked ebay and found one for 9.99 so I bought it figuring that there would be some type of tech session on installing it in the future.

Com-on highbinder, inquiring minds need to know!

this was brought up on the old board a few times. check the archives.  what u will find is that the GW CS will not work without major frame work and/or to the CS itself. Rivco is the only one that works.

CA,
You are missing the point, highbinder said that he HAD SEEN a 1500 goldwing center stand mounted on a Valk.

There is quite a difference between a used 9.99 goldwing center stand, and a $450 stand from Rivco so I would never expect it to bolt right up. Saving $400 would be worth some fabricating, quite a bit of fabricating actually.

Some people will not mount anything onto their bikes that is not specifically made for it, and I understand that. I on the other hand am inherently cheep, so I was just hoping that someone had seen the mount, or done the mounting would answer the post so I did not have to re-invent the wheel.

JimC, understand. old posts just stated that a lot of work would be required and machined parts would be required.
I like to be frugal also. want low price tube toppers for the black section btwn the intake manifold and carb, chrome sink drain tube from HD. also used it for the black rubber on turn signals

And Skinny - please keep us posted! I am interested in doing the same thing. I have a buddy who has a 1500 Wing, who's going to bring it to work, so I can see what it would take, but he hurt his back badly, and thinks he won't be riding the rest of the season...

Thanks,

Allen - that's great, and thanks!!

I have a fairly extensive shop, and might be able to produce some piece-parts, if they are fairly simple, and necessary. Guess we'll know more, when we see it. Of course, once everyone hits up Pinwall, the price on 1500 center stands will go through the roof!!

I got this reply from BamBam:

Hey Skinhead,

Yes I have the Goldwing 1500 centerstand on my Valkyrie Tourer but I didn'd do the job. I bought it on ebay and work perfect
on the Valk with no mods. The guy that sold it to me told me that was from a 1500 Goldwing but nothing else. I can take some pictures
from under the bike later this week and email them to you on the weekend. The only work is remove the bolt that holds the side stand and put the center stand and reinstall the side stand on top of center stand since both will use the same bolt to the frame. It took me
about 40 min  using the motorcycle jack .

Your link goes to the parts front page.  I dislike websites that get too fancy, and make it hard to link directly to a page, but parts fiche almost always do that.

Me thinks there is a terminology issue here, there seems to be a mix up between a center stand and a kick stand......here is a picture of a kickstand and how it is mounted to the frame crossbar.  Here is a pic of the schematic of a '99 GW center stand also.......can't be done easily!!!

Notice the mounting method of the two parts are vastly different.

I'm really thinking that the description is of the "adapter" that is available on ebay, as that is EXACTLY how it is installed - loosen the bolts that hold the kick stand, put the adapter between the kickstand and crossmember, tighten the bolts, and it makes it very easy to use a standard motorcycle jack on the Valk. Took me about 35 minutes, instead of 40, though... Cheesy

I could be wrong, but that's my take on it. I'm still interested in trying to figure out a way to make a 1500 Wing one, work.

Gordon - I took some pics of a buddy's here at work. Totally different, I can't see ANY way of making the Wing stand work, without some pretty darn serious mods. I stopped at that point. Since you bought your bike back, you might be able to play with the frame a lot more than I would, because you could make mistakes, without compromising the integrity, until you got it down pat. If I had a "spare" frame laying around, wrecked, I'd be seriously playing with installing one. I still like the idea...

If you send me an email, I'll send you the pics I have - they aren't really great, would be nicer on a lift, but they get the idea across, pretty well, especially alongside the microfiche pics.

I have a Interstate in my shop right now with a 1500 center stand on it. I will take a few pictures tomorrow and try and post it. Looks from what I can see is a new type of mounting bracket to be built.

my measuring says that you basically have to build the upper half of a rivco center stand and the fab mounts on it for your 1500 lower. not hard but it will take a little time. can someone post pics and measurements of their upper mount from rivco?

You know everyone thinks of the gl1500 center stands but never mentions any of the other goldwing models. I have a 1200 here at the house now for tear down - I'll have to check it out maybe one of the other models would be closer.

I think availability has a lot to do with it. When I was looking for the centerstand for my 1200, because they were hard to find, they were going for around $200. Can't remember why, maybe most didn't come with centerstands? Might check with availability  and price at pinwall before pursuing that one too far

Oh I won't purchase until I know for sure. A couple friends and I buy goldwings and part them out for trip money. I have a 1200 here now.
The center stand was stock on the 1100 1200 1500 and 1800's - that I am sure of. I dont know about the 1000.
